Theres alot of negativity going around, as usual, so this isn't a change of scenary, simply an observation I made.

We were comprehensively beaten in the midfield, and pretty much every Collingwood player was beaten by his opposition which is evident in the fact that the top 10 players of today's game would probably include 9-10 St Kilda players. Anyway, to my question, would you consider it a positive that we were so comprehensively 'beaten' by the Saints, yet we only lost by 28 points?

Similarly to the Bulldogs game, we just did not turn up, yet only lost by around 4 goals as well, and both these sides are top 4 sides.

What do you make of this?

I don't wanna be negative in a thread that says "positive" but I didn't think we looked in the game AT ALL in the second half.

Since I said that thoughhh! Daisy soft? Was proud of him today going at it harder then I've seen.

It is sort of, considering Didak did nothing, and Pendles was out for the whole game.

It's a combo of the midfield being off, and bad goal kicking, yet we're still never out of it.

I could only imagine having Cloke kick like Anthony, and someone like a cousins running around to top off the midfield, which is still gaining experience.

I still personally think we are one year off, but there is a lot to like.

I think it was a shattering loss that the boys needed to have. This week they will be more focused and determined to win than they have been this season. So if we are celebrating on the last day in September this year, we will look back and smile at this loss.

we played shit , ended up having three less scoring shits and went in with the wrong side. i dont think we have played that well since the last quarter against richmond when we started to play too cute.with no pendlebury and our playing of fraser as first ruck i am not confident of all of turning around in time for adelaide. another wasted opportunity

Always been a bit ambivalent about Daisy but respect the way he reacted after Goddards Hip and Shoulder and went on with the job. :thumbsu:

There is no such thing. If we need to lose to get focused and determined in Finals, then we have big issues.

It's going to be very, very hard to win a flag without winning the qualifying final, it always is.

In no way, shape or form was this loss a 'needed' one.

The problem is though by losing this game is that if we want to win the flag (I mean isn't that what it's all about), we now have to beat a white hot Adelaide, then a pretty good Geelong and then probably St Kilda who've had a nice rest in between.

Bottom line, no final loss is something you can somehow spin a positive out of. Malthouse will do it because he has to and it's now a week to week survival thing so he can't prepare beyond next week so he'll be painting over the cracks like a mad painter but the truth is we've blown a huge opportunity to win the flag.

It's all about winning flags - unfortunately we do it at a rate that the Bulldogs and Saints and Freo do so it's probably missed a lot of our supporters that that is what footy is all about.

Look been dominated and keeping them to 12 goals suggests, at our very best we can beat them (4 quarters of teh first quarters intensity and hard work must be a given)

In saying that, once st.kilda flicked the switch we couldnt touch them, ever mini comeback was always one goal (and it was always an easy goal) away from being stopped.

But if we beat adelaide and find our form, who is to say we cant beat geelong who we have notoriously matched up well on

Interestingly in Buck's book he said Malthouse never did a review of the 2003 GF despite Bucks thinking it would be something that needed to be done.

Malthouse said it's no use going over old baggage but Bucks thought it would be something that could make them stronger by admitting to each other how they let each other down. He reckoned a lot of trust in each other was lost that day and we know how well we did in 2004 and 2005 after that.

It's something labelled at Port after there 2007 GF loss that they never reviewed it and look how well they're travelling.

Sometimes ignoring the negatives and pumping up the positives just ignores the elephant in the room. Something to think about maybe.

You could make an argument for that I guess.

I mean, look at the Adelaide game a few weeks back.

We played even WORSE against Adelaide and won by 4 goals.

Something to think about for us AND Adelaide supporters coming in to this weeks game.

They will be more determined this week. You can tell what kind of mindset posters on here have. You can pick out the ones that will fail and go "**** it, it's too hard", and you can pick out the ones that will fail and go "I failed, I didn't like it so I'm going to fix it." The boys have the mindset to never stop trying, and this week they will show you all that.

GO PIES!!!

That's great DT - but why not have the more determined attitude last weekend?

Why wait until you are backed into a corner and have no option but to play your best?

The bottom line is if they don't show more determination and play more towards our best this weekend our season will end.

It's up to the boys, it's not up to the posters - whether we sit here and blow smoke up their backsides or bag the crap out of them makes not one bit of difference. It's only up to the 22 who go out there on Saturday and I hope they play like there is no tomorrow.

Whether I think they can? They don't care and rightly shouldn't.

Getting beat by 28 points wasnt too bad, considering as the OP said we got smashed in the midfield and off half back.

It points to the fact that out backline stood up once again, and should be commended for it's effort and performance.

Adelaide's strength is it's forward line and it's half backs, although hopefully Bock doesnt come up and they are a little bit weaker for it.

Adelaide's form is very flattering, they have beaten WCE, Carlton and Essendon, and I may be wrong, but aren't those 3 teams off on a holiday at the moment.

Don't take this the wrong way, but they got 5 goals from free kicks as well, and we had one less player the whole game...

One our day we can beat them, but imo they would win 7 or 8 times out of 10

Surely I am not the only one who thought we were still in it because the Saint's didn't push to put us away. They kept us at arms length for the second half which is all they needed to do.

I think both teams will come from that game and looking at a number of players and areas to their games which will need massive improvements for the rest of the finals series.

Spot on .

Umpires did cost us a few goals, that is the only positive.
Our backline only stands up because we flood so much.

Complete and utter crap. Without being rude, that's ridiculous.
