No, it's not. Years of only winning one game a year. We've already won two. I know it sounds like s**t, but, it is what it is.

Year, games played, wins, draws, losses

At no point in the 50s and 60s did we win a solitary game for a season. We only won a single game in 72. our current era only runs second to the 1930s.

To put it in comparison Carlton probably the only team on par with us for this length of time but looking at their percentage they were far more competitive

there is a quantifier here that DuckYeah pointed out around the 6,6,6. teams who were historically as craptacular as us could stack their backlines to stem bleeding. we cannot run 8 players behind the ball the ways some of these sides would have.

Good point.

Still they managed more wins

Probably a bit rough there, Clarko has been very clear that we need senior players to lead the way if we are to win games, but if we aren't winning then we'll play the kids. Which is pretty much what he and Ratts have done.

LMac is the captain, KT possibly was playing a farewell game yesterday (but not noteworthy enough to announce it publicly), CT has been earning his chance in the 2nds.

The only player I can see who is surprisingly not playing is Greenwood, also one could argue Laz deserves more opportunity in the AFL. Bergman had dropped off and needed a spell in the VFL to work on things, as did Philips a few weeks back.
LMac - so what if he is captain? He has been playing shit for a log while - why is he incapable of being dropped?

KT - really? If it was a farewell game say so and then we can judge that decision on its merits.

CT - point to one game - let alone a series of games - in the VFL that suggests he has been 'earning his chance in the 2nd's'.

The game is way more professional now compared to what it was in the 50s or even 1972, (I can only Imagine since I wasn't alive during either)

So with that in mind, these years have been way, way worse.

I've seen 2001 where our wonderful era came crashing down in a year of floggings. 2006 and 2009 where we played disgusting negative football and couldn't score and in the latter's case didn't even win a game for about 15 weeks, and the first half of 2019 where we had no heart. Yet there was always brief moments of joy in every year or memorable games I can recall.

None of those compare to this stuff. No nice memories from 2020 to now, with the only wins coming from other teams who kicked poorly or they themselves are trash. It's all just a blur.

No reason that a captain can't be dropped, it just doesn't often happen at any team. I can't see Clarko not dropping someone who would benefit from time in the VFL.

Just stating what I suspect was the case with Turner, he's a bit part player who would hope to keep playing (so a farewell from the Roos).

CT was asked to work on aspects of his game in the VFL, given he was brought back in I'd assume he had worked on those aspects. Fans look at stats, clubs look at the role someone needs to play, it just isn't the same. I watch a lot of VFL though, and from the cheap seats I don't like what I see but I'm also not privy to what players are told to work on.

Personally, I don't think team selection should look like a rage trade in Fantasy Footy, it's just not how the real world should work. Players can look 100x better or worse based on how the team is connecting as a whole. Getting back to the role, some players are tasked with a role that helps the overall connection of the team. It's why Turner has stayed on a list for as long as he has.

Players back then had full time jobs as well

Some of our plonkers have part time gigs though, like Cooking on instagram and podcasts, must take up a lot of their time

They were very average years.

Okay, you've statistically proven me wrong. But remember a season of only beating South Melbourne. I got through it, so can everyone else.

What's try again? Are you trying to justify your existence? I got it wrong, "statistically", but my point was I don't really care, we need to be more efficient and then the shit that people like you, who do your balls over, will take care of itself.

Hard to disagree. I reckon I've only missed 1-2 games in person in Melbourne over the last 20 years and you could often tell me a year, round and opponent and I'd have a fair idea how we went, who played well etc. I could barely tell you anything about the last few years. Absolute wasteland.

I forgot about the hawthorn game as I didn't watch it (working)

I forgot about it too and I watched it live.

Remember when we used to come here to debate why Jmac and Atley kept getting picked. We would argue sam Gibson’s worth. Count Goldie’s d*^#%. Wonder how long Wells 2 week calf would actually be. And earlier then that Enjoy wins against the odds with underrated battlers like Harris, Pratt, Sinclair and mercurial guys like Corey Jones. I really miss those times. We weren’t winning flags but we were a footy team

Once hit, rock bottom is where we’ll reside for a while
The hawks rebuild has left us spitting dust, and the eagles have improved
Crows and magpies before them left us in their wake
It’s no wonder we stuck in this hopeless position when McDonald and turner trot out again this week
No standards at selection

It is pretty simple really.

People called for the heads of the non-superstars, and got what they wanted. There was a reason Sam Gibson was never dropped until he got delisted; he was reliable and worked his arse off. But he wasn’t shiny enough for the experts here. It seems like every year our talent pool went down with each round of recruiting.

Instead we end up with a Polac than a Martin; and refusing to develop the talent they had. Making new recruits spend forever in the magoos, who eventually were delisted after having no chance to show their wares; or leaving like Brown.

And now we have two captains that are the worst I can remember in living memory. One wouldn’t get a game in any other team, and the other is so overrated I am surprised he people here don’t nominate him for AOY. If you doubt this statement, go and watch the most uninspirimg non-impactful 20 touches by Simpkin last week.

The administration from the end of Brayshaw until our current (not including) has been nothing short of diabolical. Unstable and incompetent. Six coaches in four years; and save your excuses. Do we even employ fitness staff?

And finally, our inability to make hard calls. Thomas should be moved on. He provides a highlight moment, and then goes missing; week in and week out. If you can not provide a consistent level of effort for two hours per week, **** off and play somewhere else. Shezzel puts 90% of this team to shame.

We are on the right path now. 2023 is a write off, bring on 2024.

It's not just rock bottom for us. We've set a new level for the AFL.

18th once again.

We've become institutionalized where we are.

I'm guessing Simmo decided he needed to give the WCE board a little nourishment, and he's confident after that call with Brady that we pick Reid and they pick Curtin any which-way.
