I know everyone is trying to be upbeat, and move on to next season.

All the threads so far seem to be focusing on that and trying to keep our spirits up, and I appreciate that.

But I think part of moving on is admitting the pain.

It bloody hurts.

To work so hard all season, to dominate the way we did, and to just have it slip from our fingers f***en kills.

It wasn't by our own doing either, which probably pisses me off even more.

We just lost players at the wrong time of the season, and as Mick said, we just couldn't get them up right in time.

It was all about timing.

No matter how dominant you are, or how good you are, if you're not ready for the big dance, you'll lose it.

I'm so proud of what we've achieved, but yes, it still hurts.

I've sat through 3 Grand Final losses now, but this was the worst. We were never expected to stop the unstoppable Lions, but this year we were the supposed unstoppables.

Credit to Geelong for having the belief to take the cup, and they did it brilliantly.

I'm glad they were the team we lost to, their supporters didn't rub it in afterwards. I felt they were a bit empathetic towards us, considering they went through the same ordeal in 2008. At least the Cats fans on my train were thinking that way, I heard one say "I feel sorry for Collingwood".

Great respect for Geelong.

My friends (non-Pies fans) knew not to message me after the game, they knew how devastated I'd be. My Pie fans friends sent me messages of encouragement, we're trying to keep each others' spirits up, in between the "my heart is aching" lines.

I'm just shattered.

mate in 08 we lost one friggin game and then the big one, i know how you feel but you learn more about yourself how you lose rather than how you win.

at the end of the day there are more important things in life than footy... its just a game

Keep reporting them, people. I'll deal with 'em.

It's shithouse. It sucks. And it goes to show just how much needs to go right to win a flag. We played well today. We had a great year. We had a few players slightly underdone and a few who got hurt during the game. We had a game plan picked apart by one of the greatest sides in the history of the game. Thats footy. The beauty is that there is always the optimism of the future. I think thats what people like to focus on.

as much as I didn't want Collingwood to win, I wouldn't wish losing a grand final upon anyone. I've been there and it's awful. keep your chin up guys. you're still a quality side and you'll come back strong.

congrats on your fine season

Yep, losing a grand final always sucks. Nothing truer. But if you're to lose then the current Cats side in some ways should, given time, dull the pain a little. You guys were valiant, and gave it everything but came up against a champion side who willed their way to the win. No shame in losing to them.

Congrats on the great season, making the Grand Final and giving it a real shake, and seeing out one of the legends of the game in Malthouse.

Good post , Ant.

Maybe it's something we just have to get used to as Pies fans. I have seen 8 losing GFs, including the worst of all,1970.

Had standing room tickets in the 121,000 strong crowd in 1970. Began singing the song at half time as we were 44 points up. And to lose it to Carlton. Carlton are poor losers but even worse winners.

Geelong are a truly great club. They are both good winners and good losers. The majority of their supporter base are good folk, not the arrogant knobs like Blues supporters. Probably because luck in footy has not been gifted to them. They have been through similar pain to us.

We are an amazing club. We may not have won the amount of Premierships we should have but when luck in football finally shines on us, that will change.

We just need to keep the nose to the grindstone until the luck that ran out of Carlton's arses for all those years becomes ours.

Bad luck today guys, coming up against a truly great team in Geelong, no shame in losing to them.

There will be lots of changes at Geelong over the next couple of years, so this was really there last chance for the flag, whereas you guys, are just building up to dominate the competition over the coming years.

If you think it hurts losing a grand final, maybe think about what it would be like to have not made one in 51 years, that really hurts.

Keep your chin up, Collingwood will dominate next year...

Just keep the sweet thought in your mind that the team you defeat in next year's Grand Final may be none other than Carlton... how sweet that would be, taking out all the emotions from this year's heartbreak on scummy old Carlton, the whole competition would be backing you, and it would make a Grand Final victory 10x sweeter...

But until then, stay strong and look to the future.

Thanks to the oppo supporters for well wishes.

Not so much in pain as numb right now, it was the one that got away due to some circumstances we had no control over and due to some things we've simply stuffed up.
It will hurt a lot more in the coming days.

The hunger was much down this year for the flag and now that we have lost in the GF, no team would want to play us next year. We will be back!

This is my first GF loss that I've experienced but I'm remaining as positive as I can. Sucks that I am going through some personal stuff and was hoping this was what I needed.

But this is what footy is. You win some, you lose some. Just remember this feeling, because when you see the black and white boys holding that premiership cup, it'll be oh so much better.

Just remember that we are still in a good seat to contend for the premiership again, let's hope we don't put a foot wrong next year.

It's sad that the years positives equal zero but at least we were given time to see this coming bad form injuries exposed tactis didn't help in the end and unfortunately gave us a view to the end :(

Pardon the intrusion....I understand how it feels and it sucks. but you can grow from it and I have no doubt you will come back a better side as a result.

You have some fine players and a wonderful running game. Those that write you guys off will find themselves pantsed by finals time next year.

I have been following Geelong since the early 60's...and I am revelling in the experience of seeing a great side in the hoops.....there is no disgrace losing to this mob...they are something special.

Not to say we wont be saying the same thing about your side in the coming years.

See you next year for a re-match.

If we only win 2 games next year and those 2 games are against Geelong the year is a success. This group need to start playing with some pride, they're supposed to be the best team in it and they get pushed around by Dads Army 3 times in one year. Geelong HATE us, with a passion, hate them back for gods sake, don't be intimidated by them.

the words of encouragement are nice to hear (can now relate to what Hawk fans were feeling last week) but it still hurts and will continue to do so for a while yet.

After all Catters are still thinking of 2008 as the one that got away.

At least we lost to a one of the greatest sides of all time (a recurring theme for us).

Will also be avoiding all the newspapers and sports shows for the next week (that's going to be tough living in Geelong)

The worst thing about beating you guys this year is that probably no one will beat you next year. The current Collingwood squad are a true team of stars and won't take it lying down. Buckley may well do a Chris Scott next year and win a flag in his rookie season.

This season reminded me of 2001 where the Bombers, coming off probably the best season in the games history in 2000, were aiming to go back to back, but came up against a rampaging Brisbane Lions who were peaking at the right time, and ultimately ran over the top of them in the end.

My commiserations go out to all the pies supporters. Losing a GF is gut-wrenching, especially when you have had such a dominant season with only 2 H&A losses. But great sides always bounce back, and I'm sure you guys will give the premiership a real shake next year.

Yup it sucks balls losing a GF :(

Didn't even bother watching the last 5 minutes.Couldn't handle watching our boys standing there in pain while watching those cocky Geelong people jumping around in celebration. Yes Geelong are a good team but your not gonna get me applauding them. I don't like them one bit. Now to put up with my boss' Geelong supporting wife that's gonna be fun

Absolutley gutted. Its hard to see us dominate all year and lose at the final hurdle. Its going to take a while to get over this. Im just hoping the boys stick together and help eachother through the misery and pain. I know bucks will instil confidence and a sense of purpose for next season. I feel gutted for Taz and Davis. I expect Davis to move on now.

Ah it sucks balls it really does.....

Heads up guys, there isn't any shame in losing to one of the greatest sides in the modern era. You gave it your all and ultimately fell short, I understand the pain your going through now, we had an almost identical year in 2001 where we dominated most of the H&A, limped into the grand final and were overrun in the second half of the grand final by a side which turned out to win 3 in a row. Sadly that loss ended the era for us, but I'm sure your group will use the loss yesterday as motivation for a better 2012 :thumbsu:
