He did it in a much cleaner way than Aker.

True Dice Man, but when you say you have had enough and want to concentrate on other things in life then turn around and sign(allegedly) with a rival club, as a supportter is pi__es you off a bit.

Just remember it's not over until the fat lady sings........or in this case till Vlad sings.

I'm not going to put it past the Lions to pursue any legal avenues they have on this issue, and I'll support that too.

Absolutely nothing against Mal Michael in my books. These things happen, a change of scenery, a change of feeling, a change of mind.

That aside, it's about where it leaves us. And it leaves us shafted. With no precedent for something like this we have to see if we can get anything out of it.

An early retirement is about our loss. Not our loss becoming another club's gain.

Yeah I can fully understand that and it's more than just a little dodgy.

Seems Michael wanted out of Brisbane halfway during the season, so he, or his manager have planned this well... unless of course the move is blocked.

It's an interesting precedent.

Good Call Danni, Spot on.

Not sure about the Salary Cap, if we delist someone, does that automatically remove then from the cap?

where does that leave his money under the cap, as he was contracted for next season?

You would assume that as a retiree that money issue had been settled one way or another. I don't recall reading anything about his money having a deal similar to Voss's, so it sounds like it's all done and dusted and not a 2007 SC issue.

every year for the past 4, Mal has been rumoured to be leaving. He has found a creative loophole. Good for him. He was great value for Brisbane but to be honest, he was getting found out by the mobile big forwards. He will be a big help to the bombers.

Mal Micheal you are a complete and utter **************** doing that oh well you will get your karma back for ********ing the lions around like that you will see.

Bloody traitor... retire with dignity one day, totally backflip the next......

God I hope Browny roughs him up next year. He deserves it

Browny now has 2 on his rough up list. If this keeps up he won't have any time on the field to kick goals!

I don't see how he would play at the Bombers. I wouldn't have thought Fletcher or Mal could play anywhere else besides fullback. It doesn't make sense.

We should have agreed to trade him in trade week, instead of being hard nosed and said no way to his wanting to be traded.

Sad stuff for our club, the AFL and Mal.

Bowers was interviewed this morning on SEN and said that Mal categorically refused to be involved in a trade. Bowers was more than happy to have the football department organise a trade, but Mal said he was retiring and Bowers accepted his word and reluctantly agreed to release him from his contract.

Pretty funny.

At least Akermanis talked straight and let his real intentions known from the start.

This is one of the worst betrayals I can remember.

Fully, I'll wait until I hear more, but on the surface it seems very underhanded and dishonest.

Way to destroy a career of respect Micheal.

Bowers is completely at fault for this. He forgot to add a clause in the retirement contract to exclude him working for any competitor. You know the standard thinsg that is included.

Can I also add that this just confirms that it was never about PNG and was always about his personal life and not the club.

FWIW I seriously do not believe Mal had any intentions of doing this. Both Danni and I spent a fair bit of time talking with Mal after Best and Fairest and he was really really sad to be retiring and there was not even a hint of anything. I would put my house on it that he had no intentins of playng on anywhere else, it was Brisbane or nothing or pursuing his outside interests. Times change, things happen that we could not predict and we have to weigh up our decisions at that time.

It's only that way if you believe that it was his intent all along.

Hell seriously how many people do you know or have experienced it yourself where you have broken up with someone, then wanted them back? Or changed jobs and wished you hadn't? Or had a choice between 3 things and wished you'd chosen one of the other 2? Or had a change in your personal life and made other decisions based on that, only to find maybe you should have waited before doing so or taken a different path?

The vitriol pouring forth for Michael based on this being a pre-meditated act is astounding me.

How quickly people have forgotton what he did for us, what he helped achieve, what he said and how emotional he was on B & F night. If everything he gave to us was a lie leading up to this moment for him to 'betray us' then the man is in the wrong profession. He'd be a multi award winning actor instead.

If you want to blame someone for changing their mind and seeing that they aren't legislated out of doing so, then you should keep in mind that the powers that be on all sides are at more fault than the man for giving them this option, whether they intentionally did it or not. They are paid for governing the competition on a national and club by club basis. They should have forseen this situation. It's not the players fault that the the big wigs didnt see it.
