In Carlton's case, young also means inexperienced. The Blues have no player over 30 — Jason Saddington, who just turned 28, is the eldest — and no player who has reached 200 games, making them the least experienced side in the competition.

I agree with this quote from that article.

Youth is only a good thing if you have quality youth. A good team as a mixture of youth & experience. If there aren't enough experienced players in a team, how are the younger player supposed to learn? they have no one with enough experience to look up to.
Yes, younger carlton players can look up to Fevola (not that I think he sets a great example IMO) etc. but appaerntly he hasn't played over 200 games so there isn't that much experience.

That is why the club went out and made a concerted effort to get some experience onto the list. Guys like Judd and Hadley will help no end, and with Stevens back from injury, there are 3 quality additions to the list from the 2007 season.

But have any of them played over 200 games?

Of course you agree with that particular quote. Its a FACT, not an opinion.

In regards to our youth, its definately a problem in the next couple of seasons, which is why we will struggle to make finals until some of our next generation players take the next step.

I dont think we can cap these kinds of things at 200+ games etc, as each player is different. Joel Selwood played like a veteran in a premiership team this year. I'm sure players like Fev, Houlihan, Judd, Stevens and Saddo have been around the block enough times to offload some advice to the young players.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Judd and Stevens are both quality senior players, and IF Hadley can get back to something like his form prior to doing his knee, then you can add him to that list as well.

what does that mean when your young players are mostly absolute rubbish as is the case with Carlton
It means that you get a free infraction.

Now you can run back to the Tigers board and complain you got infracted for nothing.

It means that they have more experience. In 200+ games a footballer would most likely have experienced many different types of games. From nail biters where they have had to dig deep & be exceptional. & many other different circumstances eg wether conditions etc.
Having said this, I not saying that players like Judd, Stevens & Hadley have never experienced these types of games, I'm sure they have. Having games of experience is invaluable to a player & a team. The older players can pass this down to the younger players (ie tips etc.).

& I hope you are not implying that Collingwood don't have "quality senior players"??? because you would be wrong.

We are a very young list, and this was our biggest problem in 2007. Too much was left to the kids on our list, guys like Simpson, O'hailpin and even Murphy had to carry far more than what would have been expected from them had they been at any other club. It is a problem that cannot be fixed overnight, but getting the players we have at the club will help.

And, I don't imply anything honey. If I have something to say, then I will say it. This aint about Collingwood, it's about Carlton.

Not as young as Magpie Girl. Apparently she's 13.

By that logic, wouldn't all Jason Gram fans be one year old...?
This is an ongoing tete a tete between BZ QC and Magpie Girl flowing over from the main board I think.

Geez for a 26 year old, you don't have a lot of awareness! ;):p
