Tanner played a decent game. Interesting Ballas was also complimentary in his interview, which the fact Tabs kicked 5 and still got a mention was the best compliment for me. Tried his heart out and may have found a niche in the forward line as a backup similar to Silvagni in our backline last 6 years

Wasn't impressed personally. Saw nothing that gave me the 'he'll make it' feeling. Said the same about Taberner at times as well though...

The real issues are that we have no other ready made forwards available and both these players have had a considerable amount of effort and resources put into their development. Hannath is in a similar position.

Unless we can unearth genuine replacements with talent who can impact straight away, Taberner, Smith Hannath and Grey should be back in and played. All of them are good depth if they play to the best of their ability and all seem committed and enthusiastic.

He played well against Port in defence last year in round 23. He played at least serviceably in attack on Saturday against poor opposition.

He is a great build for footy, he's athletic, he puts his body in, he works hard and he has stayed fit for the last couple of years. He is only just 22. He looks at least like great depth for KPF, KPD and maybe forward-ruck for the next couple of years. If Ueber goes past him or someone else turns up on the list then great. If neither of those things happen we would be mad to ditch him.

I think Weller, Blakely, Tabs, Tucker, Crozier have all shown us this year that it takes a few games to settle in, and when they do settle in improvement comes quickly.

Tanner should be given a run of games. We have nothing to lose.
Improvement does come quick. consistency takes a few years.

Has Tanner done enough for another contract?

I think he has & I wouldn't mind seeing him getting another year. Upgrade to main list on a 1 or 2 year deal?
Unless we are cutting deep, I don't see any need to upgrade him. I think he has shown that he may be able to offer something at this level, I'd give him another year on the rookie list to see if he can keep improving

He moves really, really well for a big guy. He'd have to be the most agile tall on our list I think.

Shame his kicking is a little dodgy, but there's still plenty there to work with.

This kid plays his heart out and no confidence issue like tabs. Just needs game time. Please feel keep him.

he was ok vs port. Still.... He was dealt a bad hand as he was behind Dawson, Mcpharlin, Johnson and silvagni from 2013-15. now McPharlin is gone and Johnson has been injured theres an open spot in the backline. Up forward Besides pav we only got tabs and Apeness. Apeness is still injured but is also promising. Tanner smith might be a 30 goal a season forward.

Liked a lot what I saw in the last two weeks. But really hard to assess based on 1,5 games. Perhaps depending how bad his injury is we get a chance to see a little more.

But we surely should keep him another year. Pav, Johnson will be gone next year. Silvagni could be gone as well (always liked him, but I'd rather keep Smith now). Dawson won't get younger as well. Our tall stocks are already tested atm. At best we will get McCarthy and two tall drafties (one regular draft, one rookie), who will likely not play all games. Should add another young ruck as well, who can develop a bit and in a best case scenario overtakes Hannath and Clarke some time in the future. Don't want to be desperate for a ruck when Sandi and Griffin are gone (especially considering the questionsmarks over Clarke and Hannath atm).

He's a little more mobile than Silva so maybe he's the one of the two we keep??
Don't think there's a huge skill base there or a great margin for improvement. That said I still like what I see and that first kick for goal on the weekend was a ripper, then the second was a shocker. But the technique was like it was two different people first was copybook second was absolutely shizen.
Another competitor,I'd say he gets another year.

I kind of See similarities with tanner as a young Jarrad Waite a little. Has a LONG way to go, but similar style in crashing pack style, can clunk a mark, mobile and awkward ball drop and kick action. Took Waite a long long time to get the level of consistency he has now being at the Roos, but might be something there if the cards fall for the remainder of the season.
