Guys, guys, guys some of you are acting like we just got smashed by 10 goals agianst the Suns. The Dogs may not be as good this year but they were last year but they still finshed in the top 4 last year and have some very good players. There was some very promising signs from Conca, Vickery and Helbig. Cotchin, Martin, Nahas, Deledio, Miller, Riewoldt and Jackson were still good today. Yes we have some issues in the back line but there still young and are gunna have these games type of games all young players do.

Our starts on the other hand are stoping us from winning games and must be fixed ASAP. The point of this thread is not to get to down on the result and goto Dreamtime at the G' and cheer on the boys.

Well said, they still had 13 players having played 100+ games we had 3.

Yes, as disappointing as the first quarter was, the fightback and the fact we kicked a decent score (again without JR kicking a bag) were positives. Backline is clearly a big worry. It was so obvious pre-game that Eade would throw Minson forward - we simply don't have a monster KPD to cope with this situation. But we were certainly looking at another 20 goal pantsing so to get back into the game was another step in the right direction.
Oh, and you could start a whole new thread on opposition players who have bagged personal best goal tallies against us over the years - very frustrating.

Our youngsters in the backline (Grimes, Rance, Bachelor, Houli) who have all been good over the past few weeks took a belting today.

With their experience we can't expect them to be good every week!!

Conceding such high scores is the problem. We have the second highest points against (behind you know who) and the third highest points for. Im not worried about our ability to kick a goal, but theres no coincidence geelong, collingwood and carlton have the least points against.

Really good point mate and I think the exact same thing.

agree, although im well past that honourable loss thing as well.

however, i loved the way we fought back to be withing 2 kicks, and that has been something i have seen in most of our games this season, that character to fight back.

after quarter time we were pretty even with them.

Agree with your point that we need to cut the young backline some slack but how badly do we need a big, strong KPD? Plenty to like though - the Dogs have played in the last three prelims.

the thing that stood out was when the dogs were on song, we just could not compete with the bigger hardened bodies. our boys need a few more pre-seasons before we can really compete with the best teams when they are on. if the dogs had a bad day today we would have won - however they were on from the opening bounce and we could not keep up in that first quarter.

We out scored them by a one point (I think) after quarter time.

One other point as we have a gun midfield in the making we need to get hold a of a gun ruckman who will tap to our advantage more often than we are now. Otten's ruck work was the diff on friday night for geelong against the pies.. Will angus develope into that that ruckman ????

Considering as most posters/punters have agreed that Rance and McGuane were hopeless, Houli and Grimes had career worst games, Edwards was out of business very early robbing yor bench and running power, Angus was towelled up and you were absoulutely smashed out of the middle and your star full forward looked out of sorts and lazy and the umpires robbed you and Bullies were on fire.

35 points seems OK to me.

Playing Richmond is the Western Bulldogs Grand Final.

They have won their premiership.:D so congrats to them.

Positives for us is that we had another week of 10 goalkickers for the team.
Jack had a down game and got tagged by 50 players but still got 4 goals.
We played out the game and kicked 18 goals despite a poor first quarter.
We are improving just not at the level we hoped but out of all the doom from the loss,we can all see the light.
Bulldogs team about 5 years in development ahead of us.
Our defensive 6 are very very young and with lots to improve which will happen(a fit Moore was desperately needed)
After quarter time,we could've been thrashed by 70 points but we kept at it till the end with a 7 goal last quarter.
Umpires were shocking.

Close the book on this game and lets put 110 percent towards the Bombers.

Another team with a list 3 to 4 years ahead in development to ours.

Another great test for our young improving cubs.

CARN THE TIGERS!

Backline isn't a worry. Our midfield allowed the ball to enter the dogs forward line so often it was always going to be tough for the defenders. Grimes, Batchelor, Conca and Rance are still improving, while Mcguane does his usual good stopping job but somehow comes off as playing crap at Bigfooty

Our midfield will get a defensive flogging this week on the training track, we had too many running forward but not enough running hard the other way.

It also exposed our Rucks, you win the hitouts you will give your midfield greater chance to win the ball.

The backline is too young and raw to expected them to handle it on their own.

Come on boys, it's quite clear we are playing with the handbrake here. Short term pain for long term gain. We are playing players in positions to see if they can make it or not. Same as last year. We are blooding the kids to see if they have what it takes. Soon we will see Gourdis and Post/Astbury down there. Same with Miller out for Griffiths soon enough. Development, development development this year still. Next year we bolt.

That said we have improved enough to be in the hunt most games this year and are showing real promising signs. Thats why we are getting frustrated. We all of a sudden think we are a top 8 side when we are not. Think of where we were last year to this year..... big difference yeah?
