**Ivan Maric - 1 year ???

Anyone know if this was the club's decision or Ivan's, should we be worried he'll be gone at the end of 2007.

If the Meese doesn't re-sign as we lose Ivan after 2007, we're pretty thin in the ruck dept. again.

I think it's more likely to be based around money that desire from either party. There's no doubt that Adelaide would want him to stay. He's shown nothing but very positive signs, and had plenty of opportunity - there's no reason to think that he'd want to leave.
Assuming that he steps up again next year, he would be expecting his value would increase. With just a 1 year contract he's able to renagotiate for more $$.

Yes it is pretty much standard fare these days for newly drafted players to get a 2 year contract.

IMO I think your on the money.

He seemed more than happy to resign ....another good year and he would be thinking he could get even better contract terms

This is exactly the reason....

The club has dangled the carrot......."we reckon you're worth this now - rather than tie you to that amount for 2 years - show us you're worth double in 12 months and a 2 or 3 year contract at the higher rate could be on the table".....

good news. Errr hang on. Is that a real world guarantee or a BigFooty guarantee.

Given he's at the beginning of his career, I'd suggest he's been badly advised if he turned down a 2 year deal.
