It’s December. He’s a senior and experienced player who would know how to do his preseason training.

He may be injured. May be on a modified program. May have an arrangement with the club. May be taking some leave. Who knows? Who cares?

As to it being ‘a bad look’. Soldo made his intentions clear last year, so hardly anything new. It’s good the club can juggle and manage players, really doesn’t have much impact on anything.

Agreed particularly re those `50 year olds' from the UK, they should be complaining about the pommy cricket team and not commenting on an underperforming AFL footballer or his preference in dogs!

Ivan "Ivan" Soldo was originally a Richmond player, but he was stuck behind Nank the Tank so he moved to Port Adelaide at the end of 2023.

Thinking he'd be the number 1 bigman at Port, he was quickly overtaken by the cheaper, lower profile and ultimately better Jordan Sweet. At the end of 2024 he requested a trade back to Melbourne but failed a medical at the Saints (incredible since JSoS passed one) and, ultimately, was forced to stay at Port. Port fans graciously accepted this decision by attacking his girlfriend online, particularly focussing on her obvious fake boobs and expressing their jealousy at her full set of teeth.

This season Ivan.... once again found himself stuck behind a fellow ruck. If anything, he doubled-down on his 'Human Centipede' (behind others) experience by playing just one solitary game for the year. This was a game in which Port choked late against Essendon, Ivan managed 1 mark, 9 hit outs and 5 disposals for the game, and was promptly banished to the SANFL to play out the year.

Having a mature player not work out and sit in the reserves in normally a bad look for a club. Given Ivan Soldo was part of a trade that cost Port... wait, their 2024 & 2025 first round picks?
Port actually did trade out their 2024 & 2025 first rounds for a package of Soldo, Ratugolea and Jack Lukosius in a club decision so bad the last one to rival it resulted in a work experience kid at Essendon asking their boss if "that spreadsheet I just deleted was important".

At least Soldo, contracted for next season, gets to make up for lost time by getting another pre-season to put him in the frame for selection. Or, at least, to have someone update his Wikipedia page, noting the in-depth description of his Richmond years and his Port years resemble an adult talking to a 15 year old boy after school. I mean just short verbal responses, not an offer of 'free candy and a van ride' - although I doubt Alan Jones is reading this anyway.

Fun fact: Ivan grew up in Canberra and is the cousin of Ivan Maric. Ok, I may have overstated the 'fun' part.
Kane Cornes described Soldo as the 'worst recruit in Port's history' which, as we all know, stretches all the way back to the late 20th century.

Ivan, Soldo, good luck next year. Welcome to the Bottom 40 for 2025.
