Could Rookie List King Kep (as much as i hate to say it). He's probably still 6 months away from any footy. then you'd think Duffy and Mellington are the next two on the block. It has to be said. there's not a lot of wiggle room outside of the five we've already cut.

ins't mengola already rookie list?

Grab Podsiadly, Gumbleton and 3 young KPP players in the draft. With Sylvia and our dearth of young flanker-mid types coming through we'll be in really good stead across the board. Especially when combined with the great work and games that Lyon put into Hannath and Taberner this year.

I don't think Menegola is going anywhere, I honestly believe he is Crowley II in the making. His disposal is a bit iffy, but the kid can run all day and he is slowly becoming a beast (saw him at the last training session)

Look up dearth in the dictionary. ;)

this seems pretty accurate, you know. I think if you took a look at the recruits that keep a teams premiership window open they are seldom draftees or midfielders. ie. Hawks with Lake, Swans with Tippett. We've probably built a solid base (obviously have to to make the GF) now just need to fill the gaps for a year or two.

Gumby and Pods are both routinely exploited defensively, could we afford to have either of them in the same team as Pav? If they were 70 goal a year forwards then the answer is yes, but in 2014 they are likely at best to achieve half that output.

So far:

IN: Syvlia, Taberner (rookie upgrade), Ryan Lester-Smith (rookie spot)
OUT: Pitt, Faulks, Crichton, Forster, Howson (rookie)

So we've only made 2 main list spots and 1 rookie spot by my calculations. There is more to be done.

It's a worry, true. But at least Pods will just cost some cap space and a spot on the list. If Gumby came cheap (in terms of picks... Dons haven't been very generous in the past) he might be an option, but I don't know how reliable Gumby's body is.

If we run with Mayne as a KPF he's great for defensive pressure but is well undersized. The other options are Pods, Kep or Clarke. In terms of exploitability in defense, I see Kep and Pods as being in the same ball park. Clarke is definitely more capable defensively, but still hasn't hit his straps as a reliable KPF.

If Pods agrees, then he seems like another option that we can go with up forward. If it doesn't pan out, he can play WAFL and coach young'uns like Tabs (and whoever else plays forward) there. If he does develop a nice fit with our forward structure, then great.

If we can't land a White or another ready to go KPF that is good offensively and defensively, then those guys are our choices. If we do land White or another suitable KPF, then that's ideal... but Pods (or Gumby) are a nice consolation prize. Am a bit twitchy about Gumby's durability though.

I say back our developing midfielders in. Our first two draft picks should be on a KPF & KPD. We've stuffed up in previous drafts but not taking KPP before, lets be honest, we did stuff that part up, although everything else has been awesome.

Negative, to rookie upgrade Tabs requires draft picks. We don't have to delis anymore players.

If the rumours are true we may end up losing Michie. If that's true, then there's another spot freed up. We don't have to free another up if we want to use Tabs' upgrade as one of our three compulsory changes, as we could just draft the two free senior list spots and that'd make three.

But yeah, if we go with a PSD as we have in the past, then we'll need a spot for them too. We may see what we can get for Michie (if he still wants to leave... hopefully not, but Sylvia's arrival may tip the balance) and Mello, and that may open up a couple of spots depending on how things go.

Didn't Ross do an interview this year and basically suggested that we had tried to get Gumby last year, spent a bit of time on him and he decided to re-sign with Essendon anyway. I think the words were along the lines that he made his decision and now he has to live with it, we've moved on.
He will be a FA in 12 months as well.
So injury worries, he's irritated Ross and he will come for free trade wise next year - lots of things are against it in my view.

I think the words were " Hes made it clear hes an Essendon player"

May be just me. But trading with Essendon have this implied risk that they may be suspended. We'll be offering less for Gumby than what Essendon can accept.

the Essendon saga should really have been wound up before the trading period...must be pretty confusing now for all involved

JPod would come in at the expense of Kepler unfortunately. At best a rookie spot.
I dont think that's an unfortunate thing, just the way it is. Kep just does not play like KPF. Sadly for him he plays like a mercurial small forward but in the body of a 6ft uncoordinated gumby!

We love Kep in a way we loved Clive, but he's just not a true KPF, he's just had to play that role a bit given our lack of depth. Plus I dont think we can expect too much at all of Kep in 2014 - his knees were shot anyway, but after a reco, i have doubts he'll be what he used to be......

I'd love to be proven wrong as he's fun to watch, but I think he'll be more of a depth player for us now in his last year....

I'm very comfortable with the idea of recruiting Podsiadly, even on a 2 year deal. Would come cheap, and even if he contributed a goal a game, he would straighten us up and I'd suggest increase Walters and Ballas scoring by about 10-15 goals a season by providing another target to crumb to.
