He was great Thursday night and will benefit greatly from Tex's prescence. If he plays every game for us this year he will have exceeded even the coaches expectations.

And if we don't?

If he has signed a contract that includes both playing and coaching, I hope the club demands he sticks around after his playing days are up. Instead of saying, it's ok - you can move back to Melbourne now and get an assistant coaching gig and we just get him as a player.

Maybe, I'm just getting paranoid of the people who use and abuse the club and then run away when greater opportunities come along. If he has signed on as a 2 way role, we must hold him to that contract.

So what's your alternative? Should we not ever put plans that will most likely advantage the club into place, just in case they don't work?

If we are intending for Pods to stay with us, but he decides to leave anyway, we don't really lose anything, other than the opportunity to hide our heads in our hands for a few more McKernan moments.

We lose 1 or 2 years of development to a key position player?

Do you honestly believe this was they year they went, oh shit - smack and LJ can not play? I'm sure they would have know it had a very string indication but the easiest option was to keep them on the list in hope they turned it around and recruit J-Pod.

If they had faith in either of them, they should have just told them that the position was theirs and they either make it or don't but they cop out decision was to go with a 32 year old.

The whole "this position is yours irrespective of other options, go nuts" approach never actually works. No club actually does it. If we didn't have Pods then McKernan might be playing, sure, but that would only be because we had nobody else to go there. McKernan shouldn't be playing AFL footy, he's proven that time and time again. And as for Johnston, he's not a KPP and we shouldn't ever consider playing him as one. The battle is between him and Lynch, and Lynch has proven to be the superior option.

And if it happened to be the case that we had a budding young KPP option waiting in the wings - we could play them over Podsiardly. We're not required to play him. Of course, the reality is that we don't have such an option.

If we had a young KPP playing well the SANFL, Pods would make way for them.

Unfortunately, we don't!

Jpod is not getting in the way of any development ... & his experience is helping the younger guys both on & off field.

You can't have a team of all youngsters as they will get smashed no matter the talent. It showed last week when Rutten returned that out defensive organisation improved. Same can be said with Tex joining Pods up forward. You need experienced heads around to organise the team. This is very much under-rated on this board.

He's been exemplary in the games where one of Lynch or Tex has been there.

Imagine when they're both there.

There was a lot of very unfair stuff written about J Pod early in the year.

This poor bastard was playing the roles of both Lynch and Tex, and getting **** all help from the other key forwards.

Now, he's playing the role he was recruited for.

Most of that stuff was written in the first couple of rounds where his performances we're atrocious. As his game started to improve though, most of the anti-Pods stuff dried up.

I think we all know Pods isn't going to be a game breaker for us. What he does provide is more flexibility in our structure. Having a guy that can take grabs at both sides of the ground is incredibly useful.

The proof will be in the pudding in 2 or 3 seasons - that's when we will see if it's a success or a failure. However, it we miss the finals, it's not going to look good recruiting him.

Unless he sticks around, we win a premiership and JJ turns into a 60 goal forward and we can show he has had a hand in that development, this will be a failure.

According to Sando he recruited Pods, to allow Tex the time to get back to where he is at. Watched a few footy shows from his ex-team mates that have said Pods was never the number 1 forward at the Cats. I think it was really hard on him to command the best defender in the early rounds.

When you have players like Tex, JJ, Lynch this is when Pods will be at his best getting the 3rd or 4th best defender. CC IMO benefited last Thursday night having Betts to have the number 1 small defender.

Didn't help having Pods up the ground in the earlier rounds with Betts as our go to target in the forward line either.

J-Pod is assisting our development if anything.

If Smack and LJ want to be playing consistant AFL football, they firstly need to be tearing it up in the SANFL, which they are not doing at the moment. The future is in their guys hands - want a game, play so well the coach has to pick you. Credit to Brodie Martin for forcing his way back into the side. I thought he played with great intensity against the magpies (made a few mistakes too).

Lynch comes in - Pods moves down back.

are you reading this jack is back?

.

The first game he got a knock to his wrist/elbow? I think in the first quarter, he went off for an extended period before coming back on - he was clearly hampered by it.

He did take a few weeks to settle in but he has been immense value for our team, both on and off field.
