This may be for more learned individuals than you or I, but does the AFL’s illegal drugs policy apply out of season? Say for instance the drug use took place in October 2018 during the players mandated break does the AFL still have jurisdiction? I’m not sure about Ginnivan, but Crouch and Stengle were charged with conduct unbecoming and I believe both incidents took place within the AFL season window. The weird part is Crisp and the club have 5 days to get their story straight and given the circumstances I would hope they tell the AFL anything that sees him avoiding suspension.

What I find strange, or perhaps not strange but dodgy, is that we're told that AFL is investigating and may give a certain consequence, but the AFL never gives a consequence or makes a comment about these things. It always comes from the club

I was really surprised when pie fans booed horne-francis. It would never have occurred to me to boo an opposition player for something he did to another club. I think there's a lot of bitter and twisted people out there, looking to cause pain to others to make themselves feel better....and thats ignoring the sheep who might have booed because the guy next to them did it.

That is also what the AFL are investigating. Ed is leading the charge to find the perpetrator & pin him for something libellous, so the public don’t think they can go on launching shit like this every other week

I’ve read the Hun article and in this instance I’m more seeking clarification of the actual rules of the illegal drug policy than the outcome they’ve speculated on because I can guarantee in season v out of season is not an angle they’ve considered. In both the Crouch and Ginnivan cases they were caught in the act as well and the investigation was done and dusted swiftly. They of course may result in the same outcome, but the onus is 100% on Crisp to out himself in order to even be a chance of reaching that outcome.

AFL to investigate. Seems like any penalty would come down to Crisp admitting drug use. Would get a strike and likely suspension. If he denies, then can't see anything happening unless Collingwood/AFL dealt a suspension for "disrepute", basically PR.

Personally I don't care about the personal illicit drug use of any player or other member of society, provided they are not hurting anyone. Nobody's business but theirs as far as I'm concerned. Though I do acknowledge that when such usage becomes public there is an image issue for both club and AFL. Don't think there should be, but here we are.

I'll await the outcome of the investigation, won't be reading another thing on this till then.

I think you've nailed it. Pretty comical that the AFL has a recreational drugs policy that doesn't require a suspension for the first strike. And their policy is best practice, devised amongst heaps of advice from experts. Yet when a first strike goes public, they throw best practice out the window and the bloke gets suspended by his club.

Would also depend on timing and location. Maybe it was off season and in a country where the drug is legal?

Caro doesn't need to know about the game. She doesn't report on the game. She reports on its governance. I think she's one of the better footy journalists, which isn't hard.

She gets it wrong with great regularity. She also carries deep grudges against certain people in the game. This is very poor journalism as you should be attempting to be as balanced and even handed as you possibly can. She rarely if ever apologizes no matter how wrong her "sources" may have been.

She isn't on her own when it comes to personal agendas, but I don't see why some people rate her so highly. She accuses those she brands bigots of one sort or another of being overly sensitive or defensive for daring to fire back at her. How pathetic can you be?

She can dish it out but spits the dummy the moment a sharp word is spoken/written about her by one of her many targets. Didn't she push the Age to sack Grant Thomas? I believe they acted on her suggestion. Imagine doing that to another opinion writer.

The Age also axed Thomas after an apparent fight with the newspaper’s chief football reporter Caroline Wilson, after he accused her of factual inaccuracies in a story.

“The article was about Luke Ball and someone asked me about it on SEN and said, ‘What is the difference between your article and Caro’s article?’, and I said, ‘Mine is full of facts and the truth and Caro’s would be full of lies and innuendo’.” Thomas said.

“She took umbrage to it and got me sacked. That’s fine.”

How thin skinned is that for someone who makes a living destroying other people's reputations? Why didn't she use her brilliant verbal/writing skills to embarrass Grant for his comments? No. Sack him now-he said a mean thing about me.

Such a hypocrite. Talk about being overly sensitive.

It was almost ten years ago. So let's get someone to trawl through every comment or post Gil has spoken/written in the past two decades and see if we can't shame him. I cannot believe this could lead to a suspension. The AFL integrity Unit. How Orwellian can you be? Does anyone in the AFL administration have a shred of integrity? Not sure, but I think in/out of competition won't matter. I believe the AFL only tests during season, but if usage comes to light outside of season a strike can still be given, I think.

Mumford was injured and his season over and received a two match suspension for the video of his drug usage.

Looking back at the De Goey stuff, it's clear that clubs and the AFL do not have a problem with judging players' off season behaviour.

She'll at least consider the Crisp situation before she gives her opinion. In amongst a heap of boofheads who will reflexively say two weeks. I often disagree with Caro, but at least she has a considered opinion. There's not a lot of thinking in footy journalism, a lot of reflex.

Whether you like her or not, compare Caro to Robbo, and you at least have to admit she's competent. Grant Thomas was pretty terrible, so whatever the reason for his sacking, it was a positive move in my view.

I think both Brown and Lloyd were fabulous players, but their current jobs of getting paid to talk is really bizarre.
