Did you catch any of his second, third or fourth seasons - other than today?

I've watched a fair bit of him, and I always look out for him because of my initial impression. I'm seeing a good role player. I'm no longer seeing the future star that I thought he'd become. I just haven't seen much improvement.

What is he supposed to do exactly? He can't get any proper delivery up forward, he doesn't have the experience to play midfield. When he's playing in the midfield he is just thrown straight into the deep end as the opposition mids ALWAYS beat ours to the ball. He can't win at this stage.

He's one of our best players at only 21. OP is a little silly.

This is one Eagle on the current list who will be a true superstar. He looks like he is having a down patch, but probably is just completely frustrated by a mid-field that would fail to kick it to him even if he was standing alone in the goal square! His defensive work rate is very impressive and he (usually) looks extremely fit with excellent endurance.

Calling his individual game last week against North really bad is harsh . He had 10 tackles, second only to Cripps and LeCras . He has been one of our best , most consistent players this year , at 21, and is the least of our concerns . Even after his worst game for the year! If any of our forwards needs to be dropped to accommodate McGovern , Kennedy would be closer ,as despite the 11 against GWS he has been out of form all season :p

Ideally he's a 3rd tall

They have had him as 3rd and 4th tall haven't they?

Their structures are all over the place, and they are obviously in transition and need strengthening in specific areas, especially the midfield. But up forward Darling will be a very good player for them when they get that mix right.

I don't see a lot of West Coast but has he fallen foul of this stupid current idea of playing mobile key forwards up the ground?

Simpson has to try something & I'm all for it continuing - on ball the Eagles are only a patch on 2012.

If one thing about Simmo & the game plan drives me crazy its Shannon Hurn passing the ball 20 metres.

I loved the look of this guy in his first season and thought he was going to be a star. When The Eagles first picked him up he looked like an absolute steal for a pick in the mid 20s. But a couple of years on and to me he looks very much like a standard mid 20s pick - He's an ok contributor.

Has he improved at all. Is he going to improve or did he just peak really early?

Guy is still young. He kicked a haul of goals year before last when the midfield at WC was still firing.

Darling has actually been one of our better players this year. Just, when your team wins one game in two months (at home vs. bottom GWS), you are not going to stand out a whole lot, particularly in the forward line.

You know absolutely nothing about our team, Darling or the game do you? You've picked out one bad game, made a thread out of it in attempt to look insightful but now you just look like an idiot.

In terms of undersized marking forward targets of the last 25 years. The scale of good ones ranges from the solid Crameri to the dominant brownlow winning James Hird. My point is that I thought Darling would head up into the James Hird half of the scale, but I now think that he will remain on a similar level to Stewart Crameri. You obviously disagree - fair enough

He's already better than Crameri.

Feel sorry for all the Eagles forwards at the moment, the delivery from the mid has been very poor. Slow movement and very poor kicking.
Then again watching yesterday I saw a young guy McGovern, his attack at the footy was something else, threw his body into every marking contest like you would want from a forward. A guy to keep an eye on.

Darling was beaten from a very good young defender in Litherland.

He will be alright. Not really thread worthy until he is traded to a melbourne clubs for a first rounder.
His ninja flips are awrskme

I think it's time to bring back my "Karnezis Vs. Darling" thread on the polls board. Karnezis will be a better player and I knew darling had peaked in his first season. Over rated as far as I'm concerned.
You'll be contending for the spoon the next couple of years so meh

You mean the guy who can't even get a game at the moment? Great insight
