Apparently Fremantle are throwing the kitchen sink at him, I'm not the only person on this board who has heard the same thing.

Hope we play some better footy soon and give the great man some decent delivery soon; or he might walk across the road for some success.
Couldn't ever see him coming over - he is a rusted on eagle

For all his positives is he not an undersized KPF/third tall who will work hard but will mainly get the ball on the lead or in loose play rather than take big contested marks or be a prime focal point forward. He's quick but he doesn't have that deadly amazing agility nor does he have a big leap. He's along the lines of Crameri, Dawes, Aaron Black, Chris Mayne type of forward.

He's going to be a good contributor throughout a season but I can't see him being anything more than a handy bonus player in a proper top 4 team unless he can add another string to his bow.

I kind of think the AFL recruiters got it right with him a bit. He was a manchild ready to go from day one but possibly with a ceiling on his play.

I'd like to see more of him in a better side with Kennedy up and about and other forward options but my overall thought is he can be shut down pretty easily by Alan Toovey and that he's not the real deal as a key forward.

Debut season he kicked a goal a game and was a defensive menace. Was criticised for getting the 3rd/4th defender.

Second season kicked 53 goals in the absence of Kennedy, LeCras and Nicoski (top 3 goalkickers of 2011). Was criticised for only kicking goals because we had no other options.

Third season kicked 42 goals in 21 games alongside Kennedy in a team which stank.

Fourth season is playing up the ground more - because the ball isn't getting to him, being used in the centre square - because the ball isn't getting to him and our midfield stinks, getting more of the ball and tackling more than ever and still kicking 1.7 goals a game. Has struggled the last 3 weeks, as has the team.

The way people are carrying on you'd think he can't get a kick, but he'd be top 5 in our B&F (yes we suck).

Cox and Naitanui combined for 52 goals in 2012. In 10 games so far this year they've managed 9. Last year they kicked 21 in a combined 33 games. I think we need to accept that we can't rely on Cox as a forward option any more and we need Naitanui in the ruck.

After the weekend I would play McGovern and Kennedy in the FF/CHF roles for a while and play Darling on a HF flank. If we are going persist with a ruckman forward we need to drop McGovern and play Darling in one of the key posts. We're too tall and Darling spends far too much time chasing multiple opponents around the 50m arc.

Maybe I'm too harsh on him. Those numbers do look impressive.

I guess I'm still confident that his early dominance doesn't mean he'll be the next Carey and that he has a ceiling, but those numbers do look like his ceiling is as a very very good player as opposed to just a good player.

The battle of what to do with the 2 rucks/1 key forward plus Darling or 2 key forwards etc could potentially be solved by Darling do more time in the midfield but that hasn't seemed to have worked or been persisted with?

The other obvious question is what happened to Callum Sinclair and having him as the second ruck, Nic Nat in the ruck and pensioning off Coxy. Not easy to move a legend of the club on particularly when it's for a far inferior overall player but if Cox is inferior to Nic Nat in the ruck (which he is) and isn't getting it done up forward you have to ask if there's a better structural fit.

Sinclair was only getting a game because Naitanui was at 50% fitness or less. His inclusion made us worse as we played 3 rucks instead of just the 2 we need.

I don't think we have the balls to drop Cox for Sinclair (or Lycett who is better), so we'll be waiting until 2015 at the earliest to see how our structure will look without Dean Cox for the first time in nearly 300 games.

People need to take a step back for a second. The much lauded Jack Gunston has a career best season of 46 goals. As a 22 year old. Playing for the premier. Alongside Franklin and Roughead. As a 20 year old Jack Darling kicked 53 with Quinten Lynch and a resting ruck for company. Didn't win as much of the ball, but took more contested marks, won more contested ball, laid more tackles as well as kicking more goals. He can seriously play.

Agree with OP. Him and JK look good against the bum teams, but they do jack shit pardon the pun against the good ones.

Not good enough.

Was having an awesome season up until recent weeks where hes dropped off a lot. I have a suspicion that he might be carrying a bit of an injury. He seems really down on confidence but i'd expect him to bounce back real soon. Terrible delivery from our mids doesn't help at all though.

No injury, just the lack of a half decent midfield to deliver a solid kick to his lead.

Obviously had a very good debut season. Finished 3rd or 4th in the B&F on the back of kicking 52 goals in 2012 and backed it up with 5th in the B&F in 2013. Was among our best players early this year and has suffered the last two months playing in a team that has been poor.

Just looking at footywire and the afl stats site, he is averaging 3 more disposals, slightly more marks, 1.6 more tackles whilst kicking ~0.4 less goals a game than in 2013. Its a bit of a trade-off of playing up the ground a bit more, but i think the upward trajectory is still pretty clear.

Can you imagine if he was playing in a side that was contending for the flag? He would be rated extremely highly.

He is so overrated.

Thought he would be a star watching him early on.

Average at best.

What's wrong with him?

The thought of him playing for Freo makes me sick.

I've never truly disliked a Freo player but I'd find it very difficult to cheer for him.

Considering the stagers and shit campaigners who have played for Freo in recent times I call bs
