Even if he can't participate in the athletic testing at this year's draft combine I'm sure they'll still be able to do the physical measurements - height, weight, reach etc.

Recruiters will also have previous athletic testing results that were conducted with the AIS squad and maybe even WPFC.

How far do you reckon he will slide now after the head injury? it just adds more doubt about the kid. He is likely to miss draft camp so he wont be able to answer any questions about his already questionable athletic ability.

Could this attack be further prove of his alleged personality problems?

How well will he recover after the injury? Clubs might look at polak and think uh oh.

it just adds further to all the other doubts about him
IS he tall enough?
Can he play at FF or HF or is he too short?
Is he too slow?
IS he not athletic enough?
Does he not try hard enough?
Does he not have much upside?

With all these question marks how far do you reckon he will slide. could he slide out of the first round.

It sounds like someone is pretty keen for Jack to drop into the 2nd round to your priority selection.

Will he drop into the 2nd round? I highly doubt it. Could he go late in the 1st round? Possibly.

WC have expressed interest at pick 4 and have been said to have been favouring him. Worst case scenario I see is a drop into the early 20s. Maybe to Sydney could be a good fit.

From the above linked article:

These questions, though, are not the only ones about Darling. He spent this year at West Perth, where he played much of the season, and worked early in the year as a courier, having already finished year 12. He was suspended from his private school this time last year after being caught with alcohol and a girl in his tent during a school camp and he has been involved in a couple of off-field incidents.
One club's recruiters saw him drinking and scuffling with a bouncer after an under-18 game. And at the end of the West Perth season, he was hit from behind early one Sunday morning at a Subiaco hotel. Stricken with headaches the next day, he ended up in hospital for several days, suffering three bleeds on his brain, a contusion at the front of his head and a fracture at the back of his skull. Not his fault - clearly - but some clubs have queried why he was even out so late in the first place.
Every club has heard the off-field stories - and there are more of them - and some simply wouldn't draft him, at any pick. ''We couldn't keep up with his drinking,'' one recruiter said.

Well, I can imagine Carlton won't go near him given their Fev experience. Brisbane too :D

If Freo overlook him he might end up at WC...he're for hoping anyway..

I actually believe that he would feel right at home down at carlton,They need a foward & darling fills that void.

With the experience that carlton have with drinking & dealing with players that have issue. Even stephen kernahan was known to like the drink so perhaps he can guide the kid.

The boat cruise could get interesting but !

Yeah they have had experience, but the only way they could solve the issue was to get rid of them. I doubt Carlton will want another Fevola or Angwin on their hands.

I'm sure Grigg will help you out with your culture, but not your skill level.

Your trolls are fool proof...

After reading some of the earlier posts in this thread, I'm amazed he fell to 26 in the draft.

I hope he becomes the bargain of the 2010 draft.

Darling and lycett were both pretty big sliders. Im shocked either got past freo with their positional needs. Lets hope they didnt slide for any particularly good reason

That's the thing about draft day. You just don't know who clubs rate where. Darling and Lycett may have been 2nd or 3rd on a lot of clubs list, but their first choice of the remaining players may have been there, resulting in a slide.

Clearly Freo decided they wanted another running type and Pitt is a pretty damn good talent.

I don't doubt Darling and Lycett will make it, and yes they probably both should've gone earlier, but you have to also weigh up need. For example, clearly Brisbane were after midfielders, and they were never going to be budged in their attempt to take the better ones remaining.

It all works out well for West Coast no doubt, as on paper, their draft looks like a very good one as they have covered 3 bases now.

Darling obviously had a challenging year with the happenings off field. It'll be interesting to see what he produces at AFL level.

Hopefully he's not like me, and he has one more growth spurt between 18 and 21, because if he was able to add a couple of cm he becomes that rea KP size, however he can no doubt make it as a KPP at 191cm.

Lycett is a great pickup regardless. If he finds it hard to get a look in with NicNat he'll become extremly good trade bait at worst for a club looking for a number 1 ruckman, however I think these 2 could co-exist because they have the ability to be more then ruckmen.

Who knows, by the time Lycett is ready to go the AFL may have reconsidered the sub rule and gone back to 4 interchange.

seems like there's many question marks on him.

hopefully he at least has a great year for West Perth and maybe plays a few games for us.

heard he's a pretty aggressive sort of player, exactly what we need.

our forward line is starting to take a bit of shape.

Looks like a utility who can use the ball, which is more what the WC need.

If I could pick a player for West Coast though it would've been Shaun Atley or someone like that.

A player who has suspect decision making and pretty average skills is exactly what the eagles dont need.

For me the most exciting thing about Darling is his defensive pressure and 2nd/3rd efforts.

For a key forward it is a remarkable and rare skill. Can you imagine if Fevola chased and harrassed Cyril-style having not received the ball lace-out? He'd be 5 times the player.

What's more is that "frontal pressure" has been a significant issue for the Eagles forward line (though it did improve markedly in the last few rounds of 2010), so Darling will be of massive value to them there. Can't wait to see him combine with LeCras and Kennedy.
