Seems more and more possible by the week he could slide to us @ 20 if we still have the pick.
I for one would rather have him and not trade the pick away for Clark at the moment. Obviously becuase Clark will cost us a decent player as well as that pick, but all the same i rate Darling and if his attitude is right he will be a star,.

I doubt very much he'll be around at 20.

I've gone the other way. A few weeks ago I thought we'd be a chance but not anymore.

But who knows? You may even be right Wizard. There's a first for everything I suppose.:D

Good West Perth boy is Jack and would be great for us up forward............just no chance of getting him at 20 :(

Cripps would be good as he could play anywhere - has loads of pace and good foot skills.

Rich at 7 was a shock ...Darling is that in between player who has had an interrupted year - going at 20 is in the realms of possibility.

Funny times ahead with GC coming in ....who knows?

Would be ecstatic if he fell to us, but it's about as likely as getting Mitch Clark without trading away a player.

The fact he couldn't do any (?) of the testing at draft camp could fall in our favour, but he's been on the radar of scouts far too long for that to deter them much.

yep if GC are smart they will use 1st few picks for best available mids then use pick on best forward, then best ruckman or defender even if it means picking someone a fair bit earlier than "experts" expect.
Just like we picked the likes of Ballantyne earlier than expected as he fitted our needs.

I reckon his height will scare many recruiters away, even perhaps if he falls to our pick 20. Drafting is about potential, and there just aren't that many key position forwards of less than 192cm going around, and I just can't see him as a midfielder - whilst okay he isn't midfielder standard below the knees when the ball is on the ground.

Carlton does seem like the first team that might have a go. I still reckon if the Gold Coast are smart they will go midfielders all the way (except for Sam Day at pick 3) because they are basically gifted a whole heap of good talls and they have Nathan Ablett as an experienced big body to start off with.

Pav is 192cm, he goes alright. Darling is 191cm. One cm doesn't make that much difference.

Another example, Fev is probably the highest paid KF - he's 191cm. The same as Darling.

His height won't be an issue Ysaye.

In terms of his ability to play, or his "draftability?"

It's fine for forwards that were drafted 10 years ago and have since proven themselves, but draftees over the last 5 or so years are being expected to be of a certain height (IE >192cm) or they typically get overlooked in favour of taller prospects.

Remember Chris Connolly saying Pav is too small to play CHF? Silly comment BUT it is definitely the mindset of recruiters on draft-day.

zero chance /thread

Dunno - I'd rank it as unlikely, but if there's one thing in our favour it's that, as a brand new franchise looking to build support, GC will be extremely risk averse when it comes to players with possible off-field issues.

Now I'm not saying that Jack is a problem child by any means, but he has been in the press for the wrong reasons on two occasions (not his fault imo). This and his height might make GC leery.

Same rationale applies to Krakouer, though odds are GC will think it's a safe bet that they can on-trade him to Collingwood or West Coast.

We'll have to agree to disagree Ysaye.

I think recruiters are well and truelly past that silly stage that they were in a few years back where they needed everything to fit a mould and were judgemental about even a cm or 2 of height or a kg or 2 of weight etc.

They're smarter than that now.

5 years ago there was hardly a draftee under 180cm, they just wouldn't go there. But sub 180cm players are quite capable to mix it with the bigger boys, 194cm players are capable of playing in the ruck AND KP players don't have to be 195cm and 100kg. 190cm is fine, so too is 200cm.

I'd be surprised if Carlton took him TBH.
I think they are pretty happy with where their young KP Forwards sit at the moment.
Henderson, Waite and Kruezer form a pretty formidable trio.

i haven't seen the kid play, but sounds like a smallish key forward.

is he that much better than Mayne who was described as "the best single digit possession player in the AFL", by (perhaps) Chris Bond but definitely somebody of note at the club who appreciate his defensive pressure.

Smallish only in height. He has arms like tree trunks, a very fluent long accurate kick and he seems to have decent pace of the mark. Unlike Mayne he really plays tall all the time. The games I saw him in the WAFL he played deep in the forward line and (when doing well) was getting in one on ones with an opponent.

I would say he is more awkward when the ball is on the ground then Mayne, but still relatively effective. Tackles hard and as noted by other posters, does a lot of repeat efforts. I think there is a good chance he will be a very good full forward. Aaron Hamill does seem a fairly reasonable comparison.

This guy is mentally spooked and fragile. The missed mark in the 2015 Grand Final hanged around him all pre season. The hype about this guy is so high, yet fails to deliver. Again tonight, running back to take a mark on the wing then chickens out, thinking their was a defender coming in to bump in. Wasn't anyone near him for 5-10 m.

This guy is just a run of the road forward. Mayne produces similar if not better then this guy. Another pre season of hell awaits again.
