The thing with Lukosius is that it’s gone past being able to talk about potential. He’s completed six years in an AFL system and is not a top-10 player at Gold Coast, moreover being dropped more than once in 2024. The suggestion of a F1R is based on the fact he is contracted but that is counterbalanced by the amount of money keeping him on GC’s list will cost them.

We gave up pick 30ish for Watts (and it has continued to hurt us watching Fritsch be a darn good player). Lukosius is not worth a lot more than Watts was. Probably pick 20-25 given that we will be offloading some or a lot of his salary from GC’s books.

No-one here seriously expects Lukosius to dominate for us. He’ll be handy and play some nice games. Maybe he’ll have 1-2 cracking seasons. But he’s not going to produce consistent top 5 on our list level football over several years the way Houston will.

This deal will get done easy by the sounds of the GC list boss and CD. Both saying that talks are going well and expect things to transpire by the end of the week.

Hopefully there's more to it if we have - and that's not just the AFL granting the exemption we currently need.

It would be very funny if it resulted in pick 13 coming our way through this deal, after Coll/Carl told the media to assign that to Houston's worth.

We wouldn't need the exemption if we trade in another first rounder this year. No idea if that's beneficial to Gold Coast, but it sounds like their annual giveaway is pick 13 this year.

Or you're seriously overestimating Luko's career so far. Suns dropped him, don't really want him, have a big contract to pay out. Last year he'd have been a mid-late first. This year, after he was dropped, he's worth an early-mid 2nd rounder.

Yeah nah, Luko is massively over rated because of his draft standing and the desire of the SA public to bring our own home.

His career has been a flop so far, and he may play a role but as PJ said above, anyone that expects more than that has unrealistic expectations.

If we modestly overpay for Luko in terms of draft and leave GC with some portion of his remaining contract salary, might there be enough space in our cap to help the Houston situation simply go away with a mid term contract adjustment (assuming that is even a thing)? And if no dollar shifting, that 13 for F1 sounds... reasonable, if we keep Houston.

I for one would like to see Houston-to-Luko as someone's BF username.

That's when the ACCC should have stepped in.

Don’t be fooled. Luko is a fringe tall forward or defender, in a side that couldn’t make finals. Even with key forward tax, his “potential” and GC covering part of his salary, his value is probably around pick 25.

Last year we traded a future first for pick 23 and a future 2nd. So purely on points, if we were to part with our future first, we would be getting Gold Coasts future 2nd back and Luko.

Holding the future first is important to us, and the other option is then to trade players or future picks to upgrade our Pick 39. I could see us using our future 2nd, Soldo and perhaps someone else to upgrade the 39 to get it into the mid 20s.

The last piece of the puzzle would be on Gold Coast, if they want a future first for points to trade that Pick possibly even on draft night for a future first.

Isn’t he a 30-40 year forward as a baseline? That’s a fair effort, maybe in a more suitable role he could move to 40-50, I don’t know. Mitch and Luko both in the 40-50 goals range would make them too 10 goal kickers and very handy.
