Caused a broken jaw (Lynch) bump to the head 3-6 weeks on the injury list, also 2 concussion tests (Lynch and Georgio). Against a precedent from a fortnight ago of no head clash Douglas receiving a 50%discount on 425 points resulting in 2 weeks for his hit on Ward and consequent concussion due to hard hit by Adelaide ovals turf. Ruling is tough to work out because Adelaide oval did not connect hard with any of the players receiving a concussion tests head.

We can expect from preceeding rulings anything from unsighted to a 10 week suspension.

He probably will get weeks (because he is a Melbourne player) but seriously what was he supposed to do? He was going for a loose ball at a manic pace and once Lynch took possession and was being tackled by Georgiou he turned to absorb the contact. His only other realistic options were to 1) try and tackle two guys over a foot taller than him and probably cop a serious injury himself, or 2) jump out of the way which would have looked absolutely ridiculous and is antithetical to our game.

Ball wasn't being contested at all. He could of side stepped, could of tackled, or could of put his hands up to hold lynch off. Instead he decided to bump and drive his shoulder into lynch. 4+ weeks

Jangofett has also tried to claim in other threads that Viney left the ground. Old mate struggles with reality.
Well he has good company in this thread then post 3 reckons 1). 9-14 cm is a foot (well hello ladies). 2). antithetical of the game of course, but that's where AFL collisions are at now. What is clearly unfair is some get off for the same crime that others get weeks. Other things antithetical of the game are coaches like Paul Roos' game plan("now what we did at Sydney was make this great game terrible to watch")

Oh and with your frame by frame analysis, do you notice that all this happens IN LESS THAN A SECOND?

If he can process all that in less than a second then he shouldn't be playing football, he should be running the country.

How ridiculous. The clash of heads with Georgiou (which caused the broken jaw) was completely accidental. Viney himself barely touched his head, it was just a good body bump. Will be a joke if he goes...might happen, but will be a joke.

Come on Adelaide supporters going on about this...get a grip. Take the loss with a bit dignity.

P.S. Viney is a f'n gun.

Suck shit you pathetic supporters from Adelaide, After all the losses melbourne suffered I never actively went out and hoped someone else would get suspended and then show frame by frame shots to validate in my head some shitty reason why you got done by MELBOURNE for the first time in over a DECADE at AO, Ugly football? Bring it on everyday of the week if it will beat you ****wits over and over again!

Jack Viney is tougher than your whole pansy team so go **** yourselfs please:thumbsu:

Haha, what rubbish look at it in real time, after Lynch takes possession Viney hardly moves except to turn and brace himself, Lynch initiated the contact. Based on the precedent set by McKernan last year where a blatant elbow to the head gets two weeks Viney will be fine.

Accidents do happen OP & jango.Yes Lynch has broken his jaw,but that doesn't mean someone has to be punished for it.
Except they've set a precedent with the ridiculous suspensions for Fyfe (head clash in a bump - 2 weeks) and Douglas (opponent hit head on ground after shepherd approx 7m from the ball - 2 weeks)

Both chose to bump. Viney didn't.

The ball wasn't being contested? What the f*** is in Lynch's hands and what does Viney run away with? A chicken?

Clearly Jack should've seen that Lynch had possession, stepped aside and said "no please sir, after you".

I have watched in real time and think he should be ok. But how can you be sure that the clash of heads is what did it? Just playing devils advocate here, these two frames look like his shoulder has got Lynchs jaw pretty well. He's got more than 'barely touching' the head by my view.
Now, why I don't see him going is that he did not make a reckless (or intentional) action. Douglas got weeks because he did a crude bump off the ball, and by the rules should have been aware that blindsiding a player could injure their head. Fyfe got weeks because he chose to bump, and his initiation of actions lead to the head clash that got him suspended. These were considered reckless actions. In real time, I don't think Viney initiated the bump (more or less than the two tackling players did anyway), so it was not 'reckless'. Wouldn't surprise me to see the AFL call it 'negligent' anyway  but just curious as to why you said it was the head clash that caused the broken jaw?

A lot could depend on which side the jaw was broken on. If it's the right side the head clash caused it, left side and the shoulder caused it. Reasonably confident in saying the concussion is more likely to be from the head clash than the shoulder.

Nah it wont matter where the Jaw was broken, It will come down to whether Viney was reckless, The headclash will be deemed his fault if it is
