This post wins.

People are already voting with their feet , crowds are down, the game itself is ordinary in comparison to as early as 10 years ago with this chip chip shit rolling maul crap - and now pirouette out of the way or get 2 weeks when you have no choice but to brace or have your face broken yourself! The game is finished.

If these decisions are being made based on worrying about head injuries or to give the mums of the world confidence that their little darlings won't get hurt playing footy to stay away from soccer guess what AFL ? Soccer is a much better option at the moment because at least we know the rules ! As soon as the A League improves further in a few years people will turn off in droves if the AFL doesn't fix this crap - the game is becoming a farce. It's shit to watch and it's soft ...my teams shit to boot and I'm officially over it !

Another great post

AFL are softening the game all because of there paranoia!!

From the afl.com.au article:

"MELBOURNE midfielder Jack Viney will be sidelined for two matches after the Tribunal found him guilty of rough conduct in what was described as a landmark hearing on Tuesday night."

Wrong! The landmark decision was with Fyfe, followed by Douglas.

Only now that it has happened to a Vic club based player does the Vic centric media take note!

Great post.

The thing I'm most confused about is, who are they pandering to?

Who are they trying to please with these just downright horrendous rule changes and interpretations?

We (the fans) don't want it? So who exactly are they trying to please?

Parents I believe, still don't know if it's the case but soccer use to have the biggest numbers at junior level and they thought that part of the reason was parents saw AFL as more likely to cause injury. Also I think the fact litigation has been taken against other sports for concussion they are trying to protect themselves for the future.

So Viney gets suspended for multiple weeks and Deledio is free to play.

I'll just leave this here:

Don't worry Viney will get off as soon as the AFL see that the Demons are playing Richmond the next round.

All is safe opposition fans.

Viney will be safe to play in the Richmond game.
That's what this thread is really all about right?

I know.

Lids got suspended for a little tickle to Stokes but we'll let Viney off.

AFL all gearing up for a Dees win.
I can see it now.

AFL ,what a joke.:thumbsd:

Melbourne has terrible recruiting, development, board, finances why are people surprised that the legal team is any different. Going to bet they had the wrong defense.

I think a Pies / Cats or Hawks player would of got off (I.E Hodgey last year)

Not The Cats - did you see some of our suspensions last year?

Oh really ?
Tell that to Taylor Hunt who laid the perfect shepherd on Daniel Rich in Rd 2 and got a weeks suspension because there's heads collided

Lets spare a thought for the real victims in all of this - Norh fans.

No longer can they cry and claim Ziebell's suspension was the worst in tribunals history.

#freejack - it still works.

And both decisions are disappointing for the same reason - guys going hard and fast at the ball, who make an instinctive move at the last moment to protect themselves, are treated the same as players who aim specifically for body contact. If you are going for the ball it is not bloody negligent if you collide with someone else doing the same thing.

And I see Jack V has already come out, just as Jack Z did, and said he won't be changing how he plays. Great to hear for fans and teammates and coaches - but look out for the MRP.

The pluses for Dees are that it is only two weeks, and the ridiculous carryover points system is supposed to be headed for the tip after this season, so the longer term impact on the team and Jack is significantly reduced.

I am also assuming the impact on the game won't be that dramatic. We have heard about the death of football as we know it a few times now.

There should be a fan boycott of the AFL this weekend.....I know the Sydney fans will be boycotting ANZ stadium this weekend.......oh that's right, they boycott every weekend
Haha... You're funny but you certainly aren't advocating your namesake there old mate.

The AFL are afraid and paranoid over soccer and it's growth and it's not only at grass roots level, do you find it just a coincidence that the AFL go up to sort out the lions a day after the roar won the A-League championship in front of 50k fans???

Not to forget having the bye rounds in May this season instead of in June as usual as not to get pushed back to much in the media due to the World Cup.

Dermott Brereton: "As a bit of a protest against this … I'm in the Hall of Fame and I love going to those functions - for a start, I'm not going to turn up. They can get stuffed this year. I'm not going to do anything for them. I'm not turning up to their functions. This is just fundamentally wrong."

I don't always agree with Dermie, but this is just fantastic. Respect to him.

So Viney gets suspended for multiple weeks and Deledio is free to play.

Not going to lie, even as a Richmond support I find this a bit bullshit, Lids lifted the elbow out of play to whack him and somehow managed to argue not deliberate, while in the middle of fast paced play Viney followed instincts and did by the "tradition of the game" the right thing, cops 2 weeks. The inconsistency is rather puzzling...

found guilty actually
He got off on appeal tonight dude...

Love the way the MRP and Tribunal talk about 'options' like you're playing a game of chess and have time to think about your move, analyse the pro's and cons of potential outcomes and then carefully execute. FFS he was going for the ball originally, with two players coming at him at a million miles an hour. Once he realized that contact was imminent he had about .5 second to figure out what to do. It looked pretty obvious to me that he moved instinctively, like any sane individual would do, to protect his own body from harm.

What planet are these people living on?

It happened to a Vic club in the first week. Taylor Hunts suspension for a perfect shepherd that resulted in a head clash (no concussion or injury) seems to have been forgotten - it was overshadowed by the outrage of a more established WA player being suspended - so much for the old Vic media theory
