With how sh!t he has been this year compared to what pick we gave up on his performances when playing for the Giants
He has hit rock bottom and is lucky he is not dropped to the VFL.
Very lucky we have 19 players injured and only player we could have brought into the side was Samson Ryan

To be fair to Hopper it’s not his fault that your silly coach plays him, Tarranto AND Prestia in the one midfield. One is fine two possibly but on what planet is it smart playing three relatively one paced mids? It doesn’t work. He’d work a mile better if the other two weren’t there and you had Lalor, etc in there. Play Tarranto forward.

Prestia has missed alot of games and taranto is not a problem
Hopper cannot play any other position and should be the main mid but has been terrible in most area's of his game

He should be the player thats resposnsible for the midfield and has had that role all year with virtually 0 good games and 2 games that were barely average

I do feel sorry for him, the game has passed him by so quickly. And Dimma ****ed him over so hard.

I think he can still play a role for a team that needs a big inside mid, but its not us. He needs a change just as bad as we do IMO.

I'm intrigued - how did Dimma **** him over? (I keep hearing this).

Blind Freddy could see Richmond were approaching a cliff, with or without Hardwick. Hopper still made the decision to move.

Surely he and his management could see the proverbial cliff, also?

Blind Freddy could see it yet arguably the best coach, CEO and list manager in the league couldn't? :think: Blind Freddy had also been saying the same thing about Geelong for 15 years but they avoided it, we were clearly trying to do the same.

Dimma ****ed him over by selling him a lemon then bailing a few months later cos he CBF. He was clearly trying to pinch another flag by selling the farm when he'd obviously already started to lose the group and lose his passion for the job. He should've pulled the pin after to 2022 season rather than putting himself first.

Maybe you're right (about when Hardwick should have pulled the pin) in hindsight - no issues there.

Separately to that though, surely the coach, CEO, and list manager didn't think you could bounce back and pinch another flag?
Did you? (honest question).

I just think your Premiership core was either gone (retired), over the hill, or off to other clubs shortly by the end of 2022. Far different to Geelong's profile post it's Premiership years. Taranto and Hopper coming in weren't going to turn the dial, as they'd never offset what was leaving, regardless of who the coach was. It was time to rejuvenate from the ground up.

FWIW, I think Richmond have timed things pretty spot on (unlike Collingwood), where you'll have 50-100 games into the youngsters by the time Tasmania is influencing the draft, free agent pool, etc.

I think they just made a bad call about the type of players that they though would help us go again. The game moved away from the big, slow inside mids quickly and we brought Hopper at precisely the wrong time.

I also think in hindsite that the hunger from tje entire group just wasn't there after 3 flags in such short succession. A few players were close to the end, a few wanted to go home. It was a perfect storm of shitness.

If you can keep the current core intact for another 2-3 years though, the wheel can (and will) turn quickly.

You'll likely have cap space too, which would help in attracting free agents.
 
2025 Jacob Hopper was good
2026 Jacob Hopper is terrible

Dimma didnt stuff him up at all and if anything got him extra years and money that he might not have now

He was moving to geelong on less years and less $$$ anyway. At Richmond he got 7 years on $700k and has most likely already been paid $4 mil of the $5 mil contract with 3 years to go and bought/Paid off what ever assets he has.

He could now move to a club if there is interest and renegotiate a new deal on 2-3 years at $400k and be better off financially
