Speculation Jaidyn Stephenson [retired 2024] - calling clubs in the hopes of a return to AFL

No they can’t trade him he is off their list.

I refer you to the Mal Michael rule where clubs that have players contracted into the future who retire retain ownership of their contract for the term of their contract so they don't have a change of heart at the last minute and join Essendon.

Irrelevant Mal Micheal retired then entered the pre season draft all in the same year. Yes if Stevo wanted to go somewhere last year after an his retirement he would still of had to be traded. But he no longer has a contract with North Melbourne and they approved his clearance back to his local club so they have absolutely no rights over him

It's not irrelevant, the AFL literally changed the rules over this. North can and do have the ability to block his re-entry to AFL until the draft of the year his contract runs out, which was 2025 - so they can and could trade him to a club who actually wants to put on him on their primary list for some reason for a 10th round pick as a matter of procedure.

He isn't a delisted free agent due to that retirement and this rule.

I think its worth a shot for a number of clubs. When he is on song he is an excellent player, but he just had a couple of issues, defensive ability and inconsistency.
He obviously knows this, and would give it his best for a second chance.
Put him on a rookie spot and see how he goes. Little risk, potential big upside.

Jaidyn essentially said on a podcast that he gave it away as losing every week got really hard.

Not sure Port is the ideal landing spot then.

Yeah well he was probably one of the reasons we couldn't win, horrible AFL footballer.

He’s done well to get himself an opportunity to train. But with Port adding another two players to the list of potential ssp players to train over the summer im not sure they’ll go with him. Hopefully he gets another crack and is able to contribute. How many spots do port have? Just the one?

Two spots, with 4 players vying for them
