Fact of the matter is our forward line lacks potency. If Menzel or Motlop leave, we lose vital X factor. Stringer's still young and could be a vital cog for years. They should be pushing hard for this.
its pretty simple we are in the final window - 3 years and then a rebuild whilst being competitive
a flag needs to be won with Danger, Selwood, Hawkins, DUncan, Henderson, Taylor, Selwood, Tuohy, as there is a high % of our elite talent that will not be around after the rebuild
the time is now, and for us to go into the draft and hope to win a flag next year is simply madness, and contrary to the list we are building

My number one hope would be for him to get help for the gambling, as that should be his biggest concern for his future.

The rooting around and cheating can take care of itself with some maturity, but really shouldn’t be anyone else’s concern but himself.
If I was the club I'd set him up with the Ox as a mentor, lives in Barwon Heads, has dealt with on field pain and the gambling issues off field....

Does Jake like golf?

I think this is all great ideas. The question is will we get him. Everywhere you hear he is going tothe Bombers so he can stay close to his kids

Yeah I obviously meant IF we got him

Apparently 17 is his favourite hole
Yeah, he likes birdies.

But he is 23 - which automatically means he thinks he has learned about life.

And his wife is 24. They are young, overburdened and deeply upset. I believe most of what she has claimed except that every girl who &*(*&s him then sends her a text message. And she thought bringing it to the rest of us via media was a good idea?

They're kids themselves, learning to be adults.

He's a monumental &*(&up, but I'd recruit him. Either the club straightens him out or it doesn't.

Add me to the #STILLKEEN line.

Jake Stringer is an enormous talent. He had an affair (which is horrible), but honestly there would be many (and I mean MANY) AFL players who have played up on their missus. The only difference, we didn't read about it via an article.

If the Cats think he's up for the fight, then absolutely pursue him. At 16, he was hands down the best kid in the country. Then he went onto being an AA and 50+ goal forward at 20? A premiership player at 21?? A change of scenery is all he needs...

The issue about his gambling is not relevant unless it stops him from competing as best he can. No-one has said he has reached D.Schwartz level.

As for the affair, its his life. As long no other players partners or people at the club are involved, then it is a side issue. His morals, etc. All these perfect people have not made mistakes as they have a perfect keyboard.

Does he improve our list - Yes
IS he mentally up for a change to get the best out him is the real key -

We rolled the dice and paid a similar price on Mitch Clark. His mental state was nowhere near as bad as Stringers. We even excused crap comments made by Mitch, and his off field behaviour was not of an angel. For all those reasons i believe a pick in the 20s is fine for the potential reward. You just need the right exit clauses in his contract.

This decision is simpler than it appears.
The decision is not really a simple one at all.
* the other players at the Bulldogs were involved in it. If we believe the comments of his ex partner, the bulldogs players actually knew what was going on and tried to assist her.
* the gambling issue is extremely relevant. Anyone that has an addiction knows that it affects every part of your life because it consumes everything you do. The comment was "Jake has an extremely addictive personality."
* Unless you personally know Stringer, you dont know what his mental state of mind is. Id say any normal person would not be in a great place when they have had their dirty laundry aired to the whole world.
* How would another club make Jake better? Footy clubs are not perfect, but they all have outstanding people there. Why would people at another club do better with Jake than what the Bulldogs have? Stringers ex partner says the club let her down , but that is one side of the story.
The decision to recruit Stringer is extremely complicated. Im sure Geelong will get all the facts and make the decision. We can have an opinion here on Big Footy, but it can be based on conjecture and rumour. Only the footy clubs themselves and people involved with its employees, will know all the facts.

The hard nosed reported asked about whether she was involved with jj
I wonder if people would change their opinion if something on this topic was published

And Wallis is not an angel

Buts let’s blame stringer for everything

Swan was no angel either - is just the narrative we hear

It does if he is likely to gamble on football the afl ban players for that. If that's not an issue then i agree with you on the rest.

Its all about the narrative. At the end of the day its a game of football, and stringer is not an upstanding citizen in the community but an excellent football player. D.Swan is not an upstanding citizen but the media narrative is different. All i am saying is the media can influence a players reputation.

Oh Stringer cheated but Wayne Carey was worse.

/end thread.

Fmd

dick pratt is probably the best to quote on this topic
basically in sydney execs and millionnaires cheat and have mistresses and no-one cares, in melbourne it is put under the microscope
for goodness sakes have a look at murdoch and packer

let alone the aCA reporter who shoved a camera into the face of petty crims when he was a ped

He'd be no good at it. Thinks 3 holes are better than a hole in 1.
