I agree that the gambling is very important here if it is an addiction for him. That is a distraction and could lead to some seriously bad scenarios.

Yeah it's not good- and usually addicts then get over them but maybe replace one addiction with another.

If we lose Motlop & Menzel, and do not recruit a forward like a Stringer, that is a 60+ goals deficit just on 2017 output. Ablett could offset some of that loss, but it is not like we are blessed with genuine forward potency. I can't see Hawkins getting better

Its worse than 60.

I say Menzel likes the big stage and can play finals (not proven yet). Motlop loves the big stage. You can't buy that, or train that. We have too few of those guys, and Stringer - to me, anyway - would rather star on the small stage, and then rest on his laurels. The bake his former captain gave him was brutal. Anyone who thinks you can change a mindset in a young overly confident talented star should read up on Phillipousus, Tomic, etc. Can't be done. They wake up by the time they hit 34, though.

Not so sure about that Reg....Andre Agassi was a total ragbag in his early 20's and became one of the great sportsmen of his generation.

Fair enough. But we are dangling Menzel, Motlop, etc to get him. There is a lot of down side, too. It's like we are going for a longshot, but with an even money odds!

Those 2 were not offered what they wanted all year, well before Stringer situation became public.

The money we would have had for Smith is now towards Stringer.
