I get that's he might be unhappy and that effects his motivation and performance.

I also wonder whether he has the emotional strength, determination and resilience to be worth a big investment? what happens if he doesn't like something here, or if the coach forgets to call him on his birthday?

Dunno. But none of this I find reassuring or comforting

The question that really comes up is this a case of 2nd year blues, or, the idea of coming home is playing havoc with his form? (which it can do to some players)

Big thing that stands out for Aish as a counter argument is that this is a kid that broke into a premiership winning SANFL side at the age of 16, a testament that he is quite determined and resilient... I can't answer for emotional strength as i don't know the kid.

Regarldess you go hard for him as this is a kid that has nearly every tool required to be an elite player.

It's the nearly but that worries. Colin Sylvia was a nearly man

Terrible comparison. Sylvia had played over 150 games during 10 seasons at Melbourne. He went to Freo as a 28 year old.

Aish will have played between 25-40 games at Brisbane in 2 seasons and will (hopefully) be coming to us as a 20 year old.

His draft stock was very high. His first season playing 21 games in the AFL as an 18 year old and finishing 4th in the rising star shows that he has the ability to be a dominant player at AFL level.

The key question here - is what has changed since rd 23 of 2014 to now. Its not off field issues, its not injuries. He is having a form slump which I am not too concerned about seeing as though he is 19 years old and is getting a bunch of media pressure about his contract status.

Worth whatever we need to give up to get him.

Brisbane's not heading towards finals, so there's little point investing time in Aish if they think it won't be them reaping the reward. Although his statistical contribution has been unbelievably low. Got plenty of it in the 2's, so can't just be a full dummy spit. Maybe just a couple of poor games at an inopportune time with a coach who understandably has little patience for a developing player. Not sure he'd command an early first though.

Yeah I guess the current AFL market favours the team that is gaining the player - not the team that is losing the player.

However - I just don't see how is value has gone anything but up since Brisbane drafted him at 7. Draft picks all come with some risk - but its obvious he was a top 10 pick in that draft (some can argue should have gone top 5). He then comes out and plays 21 games at a very good standard for an 18 year old.

Would happily give up our first and 2nd rounder for him.

there is nothing wrong with the comparison, because it wasn't a comparison!

fact is, there is no point saying that nearly is ok. because the deficiencies matter. Sylvia is a guy who is a damned sight more talented than aish, and all his plus points don't outweigh his lack of heart.

its about what nearly means

It's a tough environment at the Lions at the moment. Without any inside knowledge (though I might ask), Aish could be sitting on the outside of the playing group, as they're bunkering down due to departures, money and form issues.

I think if he plays say 10 or so games this year which is looking like might happen, then brisbane can demand a first rd pick but wont get one. A pick in the mid to late 20s will get it done imo. Hes only a kid and the contract talk and being away from adelaide i believe is taking a toll. We will get the deal done and wait for brisbane to blink.

Brisbane won't be too worried about his trade value diminishing.

The Smears down the road will ensure it's a two-team bidding process - and Keefy is a Norwood boy under that teal-coloured INXS shirt.

Fair call - if he has told the club he wants out he will be socially excluded led by their captain (fair enough from a Brisbane perspective) which would make for a lonely time.

He may also have mentally moved on which would explain poor infield performances. Professionalism yeah but he is still a kid. Don't confuse physical maturity with emotional maturity. (Well That's what I told the judge.)

The reason he went pick 7 was he was considered a flight risk, was considered top 3 or 5 wasn't he ? Collingwood opted for Scharenberg at the pick immediately before him.

Considering the circumstances, it makes sense
Nah, it's Pickering. It only makes sense if you want to drive his price up with us and the Smears. If he's a flight risk in Brisbane, he's a flight risk in Melbourne.

The way Pickering operates, if the AFC wants Aish, we'll be competing against Collingwood, Carlton, Port, Manchester United, the LA Lakers and the Moon.

Pickering is protecting his asset from going into the PSD as has been threatened. Anyways if Brisbane weren't so pig headed, they wouldn't have drafted him or would have not stopped the prelims in trade period last year. Idiots could have had pick 10 and got a Qld boy (Weller)

Scharenberg was reported to be Aish's best mate.....that's the worry for me, Pickering, Eddie and all...

I hear you but its looking a bit like Polec to me. Already mentallly home and that makes it hard becasue you just have to drop 2% to be nowhere near it at AFL Level.
