The disappointing thing is if Carey went somewhere else, our second option was a young Mathew Pavlich who was prepared to come home at the time and pick 4 would have got the job done.
As discussed at length in this thread over the last 24 hours...

It was... but it only became possible when the AFL stripped Carlton of the top 2 draft picks, which happened after trade week had finished.
So what you're saying is we could of got wells but were not to know we could have because the Carlton penalties hadn't been determined . Got ya

Im all for going for Aish as long as we dont overspend. Brisbane have a fairly complete midfield without Aish, and could use a draft pick for a tall forward or defender. Im not up for giving away Jenkins, despite what people think, fast tall forwards who can play 2nd ruck and kick 40 goals a season arent as common as midfielders.

I just think that we can only fit Aish in if Danger leaves. Especially with the unexpected rise of CEY. If Aish comes in and Danger stays, I guess it would spell the end for a Wright or VB type

There's no shortage of players who would be below Aish on the pecking order. I don't think that VB would be one of them, but Wright & CEY certainly would be - as would Crouch jnr, Grigg & Lyons.

To those that supported the drafting of Carey could Pavlich have done a similar job for us to Carey back in the 00s not to mention still being on our list today?

One thing though is why will never know the sliding door phenomenon of drafting Pav ahead of Carey.

A lot of people also forget that Carey was top 10 in our B&F in 03 - a year where we camped in the top 4 for most of the year until it started to go pear shaped late, which continued into 04.

I seriously doubt Crouch junior would be below Aish next year with the impending retirement of Thommo, and that's not to mention the Dangerfield scenario.
Thommo and Dangerfield are both "inside" extractors = M. Crouch...Aish ain't going to get much pill on the outside without an elite extractor.

The way CEY is playing I wouldnt necessarily say hes behind.
I know its only a couple of weeks, but its been consistent all season.

CEY is getting a game in a team thats undefeated
Aish isnt getting a game in a team thats winless

Dont bother mate.
Aish is the saviour according to everyone here, even though he has no standout attributes.

Crouch & Aish were taken in the same draft - Aish at #7, Crouch at #23. Nothing either player has done since then has reversed their draft day rankings.

Crouch might fill a specific need, but Aish is now and probably always will be the better player.

Aish isn't playing because the coach is pissed off that he won't sign and is probably leaving the club at the end of the year. It's got nothing at all to do with his on-field performances, and you know it (it just doesn't suit your agenda to admit it).

I really don't understand your anti-Aish angst. Did he sleep with your sister, or bully you at school?

People seriously over rate Matt Crouch on this board. At this point is a very average footballer. His positives are he can find the pill but thats about where it ends. His disposal is some of the worst I have seen, he lacks in second efforts, and his decision making isn't much better. At this point Crouch is a poor mans Matty Connell. Aish is a class above and by the end of the year Aish will be on the same level as a Brad Crouch if Brissy give him the opportunity.

I honestly can't see CEY maintaining his spot for the whole year. He has done very well and deserves another contract but his disposal is still a little suspect, altho has improved remarkably from last year, and he fades in quarters badly. His fitness isn't up to par imo.

You are entitled to your opinion...I call bullshit however!!

There's no "in my opinion" about it. Right now he's a significantly better player than Crouch. That's an undeniable fact. As for the future, I did say "probably". There's certainly no reason to think that their positions will ever be reversed.

Thats fine but Crouch wont come near our side this year if he continues the way he is. I know he's been named emegency a few times but I dare say thats mainly due to our injuries more than anything. Players like Atkins and Knight were ahead of him during pre-season until they got hurt.

Wrong again, keep up, the reason M. Crouch hadn't been contending for a spot earlier is the fact he sustained torn ankle ligaments in January that required surgery and the inability to train for 6 weeks, as for Knights and Atkins being ahead of him, your jesting, remind me again how many games they played last year??

As for your comment him not coming near our side this year, that is just plain laughable!

His ankle injury did keep him out of pre-season training yes, but even if fit he was still not going to get a game. There are quotes from our coaches as to Knights and Atkins and how impressive they had been over the pre-season.

Also you might want to do your own research. Last season doesn't mean much for a player like Crouch when it was played under an entirely different head coach.

So with Grigg & Lyons well ahead of Crouch and players like Kerridge, Brad Crouch and Cheney to come back into our 22 how does Crouch get in that side apart from injuries?

Keep digging that hole for yourself, I'm really going to enjoy referring back to your post in coming years.
