St Kilda only came to WCE with a offer minus Cripps on Thursday, WCE did the right thing by THEIR player to investigate moving him and enquired about Hooker as a replacement. I believe Brown would see ths as an attempt to get a trade done!

We may have offered Hooker only 2 years and 200k, in an attempt to be perceived to be doing the right thing?
I don't know but ultimately-

1. St Kilda played a game and came off second best. St Kilda failed! We probably paid a little too much for Wellingham but we secured our man without playing the hero!

2. WCE only fielded a realistic offer on Thursday after 3 weeks of f*%#}ing around leaving us with less than 24hours to get it done.

3. St Kilda approached Brown , IN CONTRACT before trade period began..... WCE inquired about Hooker, IN CONTRACT at the 11th hour. No hypocrisy there!!!


If Pelchan had of dug his head out of his bottom earlier in the trade period then we may have had a chance to replace Brown or get pick 13 to start looking elsewhere?

Blame Pelchen and his ego. You should never have targeted a contracted player, but next time you do, make sure to make a realistic offer early.
 
regardless of the shit that went down during trade month (closer to a month than a week), i think both clubs handled the cripps/brown situation as best they could.

cripps will be a brilliant pick up for you guys and will compliment your list greatly. he has a killer sense for goal and great finishing skills. i think he's an upgrade on hill and he can push up into the midfield. he has plenty of potential and with some good development can turn out to be an even greater player that can be around for the next 10 years!!!

i think we've dodged a bullet in brown. picks 25+ 26 (theres talk both of these picks would have been on traded for pick 16 to send to the dons) + cripps for brown would have been a disaster. especially considering pick 25 is now looking like being pick 21 in reality.

We will try and I think terms will be attractive.

Who knows what 2013 holds and what players may become available. Both Brown and St Kilda would be crazy to pin hopes on each other as being a sole option. If Pickering is a good player agent he should know this to.

Then again Pelchen is not known for operating within traditional dimensions of reason and logic.

so we have pick 25 in the up coming draft. daniher has already been selected, that means in reality we make the 24th selection on upcoming talent. adelaides looking like losing its picks in this years draft, if this happens were now pick 23. its looking like tippett will go to the draft, miss some games as a punishment, but theres no way he'll still be around at our pick. one of brisbane/gold coast/sydney will pick him and were not interested in him. that means were more like pick 22 now. same for jacobs (but this is yet to be seen). thats how i came to pick 21.

i agree, theres no way we'll get him next draft. saints need to move on. we need to find the next best option. although i was never sold on brown, so am happy we avoided him.

brown needs a rocket though. he'll have to make the most of his opportunities over the next 2 years or face being delisted.

I agree with both points. He has the ability to be a good KPB, so he can't sulk.

Sign an extension, work hard and move on. If he dosn't he faces the prospect of St Kilda finding a better replacement. If he busts his gut this year and is still set on going then it increases the likelihood of him getting offered better terms by a number of clubs in 2013.

He doesn't need a rocket, he needs a bit of opportunity and luck with minor injuries. When he's played for WCE, as a KPD, he's been more than serviceable.

Thank God that trade didn't go through, Essendon would have got picks 25 and 26 for Hooker...they would have been laughing all the way to the bank - two early 2nd round draft picks for him?!? God the saints must have really wanted Brown. Good result for them too in the end not giving up those picks, Brown is not worth that either.
