No of course not, however if Polec was our only midfielder that required a tag he wouldn't be playing any better than Pearce did when he was with us.
I do not know him but have time for Pearce. He got an offer that was along the lines of what we offered White if not better and has behaved as well towards us as White has towards Richmond.

I'll just repeat Russell Jackson of The Guardian's description of the Polecat here.

What to look for in ROund 8
Likewise the unexpected emergence of Jared Polec as a star. The Port youngster got his wish to leave the mess at Brisbane last year and has to be a contender for recruit of the year. Somehow Polec appears to be simultaneously loping about and also bypassing opponents with ridiculous ease and there is something about that left foot that just melts you. Looking like a junior henchman from a Scandinavian crime thriller probably helps, too.

Polec was trotted out be the ill informed as one who was offside with Voss....nothing could have been further from the truth. The Voss sacking cost us 2 of the go home 5, incidentally it was the best two, Polec and Yeo.
Yep Voss rates him very highly. I heard his mini review of the Port vs Giants game after the Crows lost to the Dees & he was gushing at how good Polec was, he even called him a star.

Polec had great comments towards Voss as well, when he came across said he was a great coach & he got along with him well but felt like he needed to come home for the betterment of his AFL career which has spoke for itself quicker than I thought it would.

Agreed. Polec's comments since back this up. I keep waiting to find out why Brisbane shafted Voss but so far nothing. Lifted them to the verge of finals last year then sacked.

I'm wondering whether it was some problem with team dynamics, e.g. bullying etc. Once we had him in the off-season I went to Foxtel to watch the one game he played last year (a Q-clash?) and there was one play where Polec was going for the ball near the boundary line and Jonathan Brown raced in, cleaned him up, and scored a snap goal. It was like Polec was an opposition player. Brown looked great, Polec looked like garbage. It was weird.

It was to have the seat free for Paul Roos, wasn't it?

People keep saying that without saying where the logic of that lies. Club champion who captained a team in 3 winning GFs and is coaching well (after an awkward start) must be replaced. Why?

Brisbane replaced their respected - even feared - guernsey with the paddlepop lion. Why?

I'm not sure the last couple of CEO's have had their heads screwed on.

Synergy during the rise of Nickelback?

If Freo were to offer their 1st round draft pick and Pearce for Trollac, would you do the trade?
Nope, because if Polec continues at this rate, he will be equivalent to first three in a draft, which Fremantle can't match. Question is more whether I would have Pearce and Polec at the expense of Clurey or Shaw which we got for him.

Beacuse the club is in the same place you were a few years back except, some of the muppets are still in charge and we don't have Keith Thomas, Kochie, Kenny, Burgess and Boak waiting in the wings to assume the controls. We are run by muppets. Voss appearing in the media is turning heads because he's pretty straight down the line and as a coach he was on his way to making it. Sadly he'll make it someweher else and we are on the road to nowhere.

His sacking will go gown as one of the decade's major Club Board stuff-ups IMO ... Up there with the Crows/Trigg debacle of the last two years ... both debacles that could end up bringing their respective clubs to their knees. Brisbane not far off it, and the Crows ... we will see what 2014 brings, but it aint looking too pretty!

PS ... The Port Board's decision to stay with Choco & extend his contract is up there with the previous two. But I put that into the huge mistake bracket, while the other two are in a different league - just head-shaking stuff!!

Ranked behind Nick dal Santo as recruit of the year 'by the numbers' in this article in The Age.

But the comparison is very close and considering dal Santo went to North as a recognised and ageing star and Polec to Port as Jared who? our long-term investment should pay off handsomely.

Hey folks, apologies for the intrusion... but what kind of role is Polec playing in the team? Is he playing as a linking outside mid, as a wingman with a better mix of contested and outside (rather than a mainly linking role), high half forward?

Sorry for the ignorance, but I haven't been able to watch many non-Freo games this season and am genuinely interested. We've got a young bloke in our team (Crozier) who probably has some of the tools that Polec has, but isn't getting a lot of midfield time in the bigs. With Polec being such a success this year, I'm curious what roles he's been playing to see how far off Crozier is from potentially taking a shot at some of those roles... as he might be able to show more than he is in his current role in the bigs (HFF/forward pocket mostly).

Any feedback much appreciated!

Good question. Initially, especially in the pre-season, I'd have said wingman. His speed combined with some of the most precise passing I've seen meant if someone got the ball to him from a clearance it was guaranteed to hit a forward. But he very quickly moved into being part of the mid-field clearances himself. Logically your description of a linking outside mid would be the role I'm sure Hinkley wants him to play. Footy being what it is Polec often finds himself in and under as well, but while he does fine at that IMO it's probably not the best way for us to use him.

The role of "a good little player" (as Russell Ebert might say).

Yep im sure ive heard Kenny say everyone MUST be able to get their own ball so that would be why he would be getting in and under
