i think people were expecting too much of him early. Yeah he got dropped after a couple of poor games but he is coming off a serious career threatening injury. We are lucky that he can still play to be honest.

What he has shown since he came back from that maggies game is approaching his best. So important to our team

I too think he can end up as one of the better players in the competition. He is pure silk. Every time he touches it he hurts the opposition hard

When The Pole gets 15 kicks or more our win/loss ratio is 7-2. The only loses are against Sydney at AO in 2014 - we always lose against those bastards so he probably needs to get 40 kicks for us to beat them. The other one was Freo Rd 1 2015 which was bloody tight game. His precision kicking is his weapon.

The Pole is 23-12 at his career at Port, so 16-10 in those other 14 kicks or less games.

I'm not starting this thread about his run and carry or his skills. We've always known he had that ability. I'm starting this thread about his defence.

0 tackles in our loss against the Crows. 1 tackle in our loss to GWS. That's why he was deservedly dropped, and specifically told to go back and work on his defence. 4 tackles against the Tigers on his return, and then 5 against the Lions. I don't have access to the stats but I'd bet that when Janus sees this thread he'll be able to tell us that his pressure acts have gone way up in the last two games too.

He's always had issues with two way running, even in 2014 when he was in great form. And how many times have we seen an underperforming Port Adelaide senior player go back to the SANFL, rack up a few touches to get back into the side, and then play exactly the same way as they did before they were dropped? Credit to Polly for genuinely learning from his spell in the reserves, changing his game and coming back as an improved player.

If he continues to run defensively as hard as he runs offensively, he has the tools to make the step up from good to elite.
I was looking for Polec's 2010 draft camp results after reading about Amon in another thread about his pace and Polec was mentioned. Look at Polec's Q&A with AFL website and see how good his 2010 judgement of himself was and what Schulzenfest wrote 13 months ago.

In his own words
What type of player are you?
I am a long left-footed wingman who is efficient going inside 50 and kicking at goals. My work rate around the ground is good and my defensiveness is one in a million. [ I guess he didn't say 1 in a million good or bad :p ]

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?
The way I play is more a Stephen Hill-type player with the run and carry and an explosive left foot.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
My strengths are my run and carry, my work rate and competitiveness around the ground. My cleanness is great and my kicking is very efficient.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
The parts in my game I want to improve are my tackling and set shots at goal.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
I barrack for the Power and the way I showed that was by being a member and having their merchandise.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
My parents got me into football at a very young age. They have supported me from day one.

Yeah playing this role perfectly I don't think their is a better link up/runner in the game at the moment, possibly Hill.

Stephen Hill has been having a poor couple of seasons but when he was playing his best he, was as good a link up player as there was, but more importantly he was just about the best corridor player there was in that 2012-14 period, as he used to run and carry the ball and kick it thru the corridor and not wide out on the wings and flanks. He was just about my favourite player to watch. Polie even in his best form of 2014, didn't use/play the corridor like Hill did during his peak years.

I was actually talking about Brad, only because my post was referencing as of right now.

But you are right in your statement Polec doesn't have the line breaking speed either but his disposal is far superior which covers that.

He is our most important midfielder imo. Gives us the elite kick and line breaking run and carry that no one else does. Very good on the inside still and gets a lot of it. Him in form, along with paddy and chuck, are the main reasons for our turnaround this year, making those 3 players our most valuable

Being saying it for awhile now - Polec is a top 10 AFL player when he is playing at his best.
He goes about his business quietly but is so influential for us ... perhaps its only a matter of time before he gets a heavy tag.

He and Robbie Gray are in the same mold ... when they get the ball, time seems to slow down around them. Its like everyone else is in slo-mo, and they seem to have time to do things no one else can! Just magic!

Very exciting to see Ah Chee show some signs of that against Hawthorn!!

Love the Pole Cat - underated player - so important, when he plays well we tend to win.
Could he take out a B&F?

Polec and Dixon have both moved up another notch.

To become real top shelfers Polec needs to start kicking a few goals, preferably long range ones, and Dixon need to start snarling at the coaches whenever they refuse to play a second KPF that is both tall and a natural forward.

He is potentially a very good all round player. He still needs to work hard on his defensive game and hard ball gets. If he can over come these areas consistently and work on his other side of his body use he is potentially a top 20 AFL player.

Fabulous to watch when switched on....

He is great offensively but his defensive work is diabolical.
In the second quarter he gave away 2 frees to the right of screen deep in defence. The first was poor defensive play where he grabbed Hunter in the marking comp when he didn't have to and the umpire was in perfect position to see it. Right at the end of the quarter he was a bit stiff to give that free kick against Murphy. I didnt think it was a free but by landing on St Bob after the marking contest he gave those dodgy umpires every chance to pay a free to St Bob.

You can see though his positioning and defensive nous is just not afl standard. I actually thought both frees against him were there. There was also another in a ruck contest in their FWD 50 were the ball came down from the ruck tap and he stood their flat footed ball watched, the bullies player grabs the ball kicks the goal while he put in the token smother attempt.

His offensive arsenal more than makes up for it, but still a bit off season work wouldn't go astray.
