Imo if the decision is his and his alone, he would choose to stay on less cash and a longer term, as his partner and her family is in Vic. I think it will be a tough decision for Polly but I still have faith he will resign. Just a gut feel on things.
Personally I hope he stays, we have no one ready yet at Port, that can run and carry and deliver the footy like Polly. The down side can his feet go the distance and a pity he struggles on his non preferred foot.
I remember GC saying Dixon is only good for 16 games a year with his ankles too, so Polec may be okay if managed correctly.

I hate seeing any Port player go but that's modern day football and we have to live with it as long as we follow footy.

Yeah this is the thing people are skipping over - there may not be one individual player we can trade/draft in that completely compensates for Polec, but this doesn't have to be about a 1 for 1 swap. The best case scenario is as Schulzenfest mentioned where we get pick 11 and Preuss/Durdin, then turn 11 plus our first into Rankine/Rozee. The combination of Preuss/Durdin and Rankine/Rozee may then outweigh the loss of Polec.

Then you look at the options in our current list: Hammer back next year allows Bonner to spend more time on the wing in Polec's position. Trade Pittard for a packet of chips and a pie, which we then feed to Farrell to bulk him up a little for next year.

I would suspect we would rather Lycett than Preuss (and he would be free). I dont think we need Durdin either.

Rankine is the one I want, but I suspect we want Rozee who, after Walsh, is rated as the best outside mid in the draft.

I’m not saying we can’t win a premiership without him. I actually don’t think he is that important this year or next.

He has the potential to be our best player for the next 5-6 years though. This is about us trading away our chances in 2020 onwards. We HAVE to get something to cover for that, AND something to cover for the loss of Polec right now. If we can pull that off brilliant, but I’m not sure we need to take the chance to save some money?
 
I hope Polec stays, but...

North could probably afford to trade this year's first rounder out, which is currently #9, they've got Tarryn Thomas in their academy (Tasmania-at-large is their NGA zone) and he's a top 10 prospect and they have bidding rights anyway

Yes, of course. I’m not saying let him go for peanuts, but I would hate to see the club pay overs (in dollars and years) to retain a player who:

> is prone to serious injury (the guy is on a strictly modified training program just to get him by week to week)

> needs a constant kick up the backside to stay motivated

> does not have a right foot

> shirks all physical contests

> kicks the ball to opposition far too many times to be considered an “elite” kick

If North Melbourne would seriously give us a first rounder for Polec then I say take it - then with some (or a lot) of luck we can draft a kid who can provide for us in the longer term.

Didn’t we learn anything from over-committing on the Butcher, Lobbe and even Hartlett deals?
 
Polec is local and he's looking likely to leave for a fortune? Ultimately a players worth as they get older will dictate where they stay

70% efficiency.

3 tackles but won't knock that for an outside player.


Actually goes ok.


I'm not saying pay the world but that's only because I really like Rozee and that pick could get him.

I still think he's staying.
 
or maybe they're happy for him and happy it's now public. probably best for the club to get a good pick for him if he's being offered a gigantic deal

I like Polly, it would be a real shame to lose him as he has become a very good player. As I've said all along, if he gets a Godfather offer that's outside anything close to what we would offer for him, the I'm ok with him leaving. I'm nowhere near as emotionally attached to players as I used to be, especially this group that has achieved 3/5ths of **** all so far. There's still hope though.
