I don't want to lose him. At 25 he's coming into his prime and on the back of a fantastic season. He's one of our best players.

But....

I don't know what it is, but I'll feel slightly disappointed if we don't land this extra potential top 10 pick this year now.

Change certainly is exciting, but isn't always good.

Any top ten pick we get now likely won't play any decent footy with the likes of Robbie, Hoff, Ryder etc. They are on final stretch. They are essentially replacements for them.

Can anyone remember what we gave Brisbane for Polly? I do remember WCE got Yeo at the same time for a packet of chips and I think Docherty went to Carlton the same year for a lot less.

Yeah, my preference would be for him to stay but we can't match the purported NM offer - not least because of the ripples that might cause in terms of our superior guys who aren't on anywhere near that much.

But at this point I'm almost ECO, so que sera.

For once I would like our club to negotiate hard like Dodoro does or our neighbours do.
I could be wrong but it feels like we always play nice and pay a lot to get players in compared to some other clubs but accept peanuts to let them go.

Norf aren't obliged to give us anything are they. Polly is out of contract so potentially he could walk to the draft.
If they want him and in good spirit they will negotiate and trade.

Then he ends up at Carlton or StKilda they are both desperate for talented players are are keen on Polec.

North have had player after player after player turn them down, when one finally says yes do you think they’ll lose him at the trade table ? Not a chance.

They are desperate to land him which is why they have offered him big $$$, the trade we will get will reflect this.

It looks a bit complicated...

To be fair Adelaide have really managed to stay on task despite the constant stream of departures.

I love Polly as a player, his strengths are well documented, but agree we shouldn't match these ridiculous terms. North offer these ridiculous deals every other week and the only reason Polly has bitten is that 2 years ago he was sitting on the sidelines for the better part of a year wondering if he'd ever play AFL again. If we bend to this then we set the precedent for every other player manager that they can use competing clubs' salaries to inflate their contracts.

This will be the first time I ever say this but we should take a leaf out of Adelaide's book. If he elects to take the cash and consign himself to spending his prime in footballing wilderness, then we take the top 10 pick and use the money to replace him, restructure and cover the gap. If Adelaide can do it with Dangerfield, Gunston, Tippett, Davis, Lever etc. then we can too.
Don't let the crows spin fool you, they would take all those players back (besides Tippett) in a heartbeat. Wow, i shudder to think how good they could've been if all those players had stayed. Yeah they got a couple nice picks out of Lever and Cameron and i commend them on that but losing those two players played a major part in their demise this year.

I'm old school and am stuck in the club loyalty time warp and grew up thinking there would nothing better than playing for the PAFC. I hate the shit music kids listen to these days too. I hope Polly stays but understand today's landscape. If we could meet somewhere in the middle contract-wise and he decides he wants to keep playing for Port that would be a great outcome.

Apologies to intrude, but if something eventutes, both clubs will deal in good faith.

Think that gets lost in the bluster of forums and media. Port have been astute the last few years and haven't made any obscene demands at the negotiation table.

As mentioned, doubt the club lets one on the hook get away if we are indeed his choice.
