If this eventuates then I hope we do not go the way of caving in to make the trade easy for the player. What a load of rot, the trade is not any easier for the player whether we get very little or a lot out of North. We'll be giving up a lot here, don't be fooled by the not n the top 10 of last year's B&F dialogue, Polec is an important player. We don't stand in his way but getting the best we can from North is a lot different to that.

Ken said that Polec is top 3 in our B&F at the moment. He might have said - probably top 3. I have him 2nd (30) long way behind the Hoff (42) and just ahead of Robbie (29) and Chad (27).

Last year I had him 14th best and the coaches said he was 11th best.

As a guide rather than anything definitive, in our B&F last year
1st Ryder we gave up 17 + 37 for him
2nd Dixon we gave up 10 + 32 for him
5th Ebert we gave up 28 for him

When we got Polec we gave up 14+34 and got pick 21 +45 back with him in the trade. So he cost us about pick 38 if you use the AFL's draft value index.

So if North are prepared to pay him approx $700k/year average over 5 years he is worth them giving up pick 9 or 10 for him, and maybe a bit more.

And there is a bit of bullshit being floated around about his foot and injury prone. He has played for Port;
2014 24 out of 25 possible games
2015 5 games first 5 games then put out to pasture for the year
2016 17 out of 22 games. 5 games he missed were because of form and played them all in the SANFL
2017 22 out of 23 games. 1 game missed he wasdropped to SANFL and played there
2018 19 out of 19 games

So the last 3 seasons he has not missed a game because of his foot or any other injury.

First he is out of contract on 31st October this year, so there is no sitting out for a year.

If North are prepared to front load his contract with $1mil up front in the first year, as has been reported, and he puts those conditions on his contract demands if he gets drafted, then I doubt anyone else will match that offer and he gets to North as for free. We have the upper hand, but its not 100% in our favour.
 
North have been chasing players hard. No chance they let one go if it gets dicey at trade table

The last thing they want to do is show future prospects they will chasing especially the gws boys that they can talk the talk but not walk the walk

North have laid all their cards on the table

They have no hand to play. The only thing stopping port from completely fleecing them is the outlook for future trades

Any trade done will be done in ports favour. It’s absurd to think otherwise.
 
Pick 9 and Im happy for him to go... We could then package 9 and our 1st pick to try and get a low pick to get Lakoshous (or however it is spelt) or Rakine (or however it is spelt) just to really piss off the crows :D:D:p:p oh and because they might become great players too.

I wouldn't say it's screwing us over, North have had this salary cap space forever now and it's not a great look if opposition players are turning it down. The best they can do is offer a B grade player that of an elite player's money which they have done.

Not even mad. Even I know the money is too stupid to pass up.

And how dirty Polec plays! Any player of integrity who leaves on good terms will ask the receiving club that he wants them to deal fairly with his old club. I can't see Polec going along with the Roos backstabbing Port ... He is not Nick Stevens!

I see zero reason why Polec that is being hunted desperately is worth much less in a trade than Ryder who was walking out with a suspension over his head and not an elite player at Essendon and Dixon who barely played half the year on glass ankles kicking 40 goals once with Gold Coast wanting him out.


Teams have set the price. Good first 22 players cost a 1st and a 2nd rounder.

Why should Port give teams a discount when we pay that price? Polec is every bit better than the players Dixon and Ryder were at that stage without the baggage they had.

Outside long kicking wingmen are as rare as rucks and kpps.

If north want the player they pay the price that we've had to pay for similar players.
