Gee I don't know mate. The criteria he set doesn't really picture rishmond. Board has not been strong at all, financially they aren't really up there with the best and the natives turn REALLY nasty. I think he is eyeing off Adelaide job. Mark my words on it.

I don't think Hawks can afford to pay out Shwab's contract. I think there is no doubt that if Ayres gets the chop he will be coaching next year. I have thins hunch that Ayresy will be at Tigerland next year. Just this feeling I have

Previously Wallace has said he will only go to a club that will win him a premiership. The other day he said he would want some stability so he is looking for a club that is strong financially, strong at board level and that has strong following. He said he would like to get the list like Fremantle or St. Kilda but he realises that that will not happen. He also said that he would be happy to move interstate if the right opportunity presented.

Tell me how many sides that would be looking at a coach have strong board, strong administration and strong following??????

Read into it what you like but I get the feeling Terry is eyeing off the AFC job. Time will tell.

I have been saying for some time that Wallace would make a good coach of the AFC - why would he want it?

if you had coached the doggies on a budget of a $1.50, you'd want to come to footy park too!

as an aside did any one read the interview a couple of weeks between Brereton and Ayres? Gazza was saying that he was one of about only 20 coaches in AFL/VFL history to have coached 200 games, and he was proud of that.

1. well he should be.
2. He does have a strong record and say a richmond might look at him as someone who is a no nonsense 100% footy guy, to straighten the ship.

What I mean't was, if Adelaide decide that after 5 years there's a need for change, if they procrastinate, Wallace isn't going to hang back and wait.
He wants to coach badly, and if another club is quick off the mark,he would probably grab the job, as long as the club is not a basket case financially.

The only reason Ayres would leave AFC, was if the club felt it was time for change. He's not the worst coach going around, and on last nights great win, he obviously has the players respect, and has them capable of playing great footy.
I have no doubt he would suit a Richmond or even possibly Hawthorn.
I know Schwab has a contract, but he is the sort of guy, who would stand aside, if he felt it was in the clubs best interest.

This is a comment out of left field, but; What about future prospect of having Bickley as a special assistant midfield coach(as in a assistant to the Midfield coach, Craig)? We all know Bicks threw in 150% into the mid field clinches, went hard and fast for the ball, something that some of the boys have been criticsized for not doing this year.

The next 15 weeks will decide whether Ayres is with Adelaide or elsehere next year.

He took a big step forward last night with an excellent coaching display to enhance his chances of a contract renewal. But it is only one step - not the whole journey.

I heard him in an interview somewhere some time saying that if the day came that he wasn't Adelaide's coach, that he would really like to "go home" and coach his old club, Hawthorn.

That still may happen.

Not such a bad idea........... After all he is pretty bad on television, maybe he needs to try something more, you know, not television!!

If the time for a change comes, and Ayres goes, I would like to think that when all is said and done, that we would wish him well and thank him for doing a pretty well for us.

Rather than hang him, just thank him for the good work that he did with us and good luck at his next club.

Or, if we think he is the best guy for us still, no problem either.

Its not often that I agree with you but I am 100% behind you.

I have done my share of Ayres bagging but I think when I did it it was warranted. However, what Gary has done for this footy club cannot be underestimated. He is the only coach that got us into the finals for 3 straight years which is a club record. He took over a burnt out list and turned it over in 3 years. Yes he has made some blunders but tell me a coach that hasn't. He has made the team into a very competative outfit. You know than more often than not we will have a fair dinkum crack and if we lose we will lose on our own terms.

Personally, I think he has improved as a coach in each of the years he has been with the club and has added a bit to his coaching repertuare (sp???) each year. He has shown faith in players that a lot of us believed were not up to it yet those players have developed into solid contributors and have done everything for the coach. He has the full belief and support of players as shown by the showdown win. I think thats waht matters.

I for one will wish him all the best if he does leave and thank him for what he has given to the footy club. If he stays he will have my full support.

Either way, Gary Ayres represents a man with strong character who commands 100% commitment and takes no nonsense.
