Jarryd Allen nominates for draft

Maybe you are going to draft him in the ND on absolute minimum wage (or he still has to be paid out part of a contract anyway) to save salary cap room and fulfill the minimum number of players drafted in the ND (you traded in several). There is also the option of straight away transferring him to the Long term injury list allowing his spot on the actual playing list to be used by a rookie anyway.

I heard St Kilda FC did this, not Jarryd. I think it has something to do with player turnover rules, ensuring we get the right number of picks in the draft. I'm confident that he wont be playing AFL any longer, which is a real shame for him and the club.

Might get re-drafted and stay on in some type of non-playing role,
or get drafted and stright onto the LTI list.
I dont mind the idea, I liked the bloke, and I think having him around the club will motivate others because of the type of injury hes got

Surely it wouldn't be so that they can keep him around the club? purely management based wouldn't it

Man why must all this Player payment crap be so complicated.

Hoping the above post about the Irishman is correct.

You would assume someone will be getting promoted at some stage during the year / process as we all know Woody will not a play a game, we know when the G-Train came back that as soon as his arthritis said nope he pulled the pin no issues, so we can assume a similar scenario with Woody would eventuate.

Just be drafted to fill a list place, be placed LTI or retire and free up that list space to be used by another player if need be over the course of the 2 years or pay out his "contract".

Obviously the club does not rate this draft, trading picks for players and now this. They obviously feel that there is no point giving a two year commitment to someone they think is unlikely to add any value at AFL level. Use the rookie list, promote the good ones (has worked well for us lately) and move the others on.

Pretty tough, but who am I to say it isn't the right thing strategically.

OK...the jarryd allen list management strategy didn't come into play in the draft. Why would the saints get him to nominate and not pick him up!!

I thought the idea of redrafting him then putting him on the LTI list to promote the Irishman was gold!!

Now im confused as he is no use to us as a rookie!!

Unless we are thinking of delisting 1 more player before the next list lodgement on December 2nd to free up a spot for the Irishman??

He is useful to us as a rookie brother. We add him as a mature age rookie. He is still owed a year on his contract which would have had to be paid out and formed part of the salary cap payments. Doing this allows us to not have his payments form part of the salary cap which would have been part of the plan all along.
