Jason Johnson to Dees??

Theres been strong rumours linking JJ to the dees since the bombers have offered him a 1 year deal, whereas he wants a 2 year deal. Do you guys reckon its worthwhile going after him? Personally, I don't really see a spot for him in our lineup, we already have plenty of in and under players and he doesn't exactly bring much pace to the side. Thoughts??

He's a damn good player, but at 29 next year and (I can't believe i'm saying this) tough inside midfielders the last thing we need, I'm not sure we should be chasing him.

He'd no doubt be a regular senior player for us, but at the expense of Jones or Sylvia? I dunno...

he finished strongly in the 2nd half of the year including a 28 possie 5 goal game in rd 22.

I'd only go for him if he came at a very low cost.

Otherwise, he isn't in his prime anymore and his position can be filled by several youngsters.

I really rate him, but he isn't what we need. Brock plays the exact same role, is 20 and already a better player. I'd rather Ricky Dyson if we went after an Essendon player.

I agree with D_M...Dyson would be a star in our team. As seen in the Freo game, we lack some serious speed in the midfield and he's a great runner with a great kick as well, just what we need. He's been known to be a fringe player at the club but knowing some Bomber supporters, they rate him highly.

With JJ though, I'm kinda thinking, maybe if we did pick him up we can slot him into the midfield and chuck Byron more forward and throw Ooze down back

Being able to play Johnson instead of, say Godfrey or Read, would be a luxury. But I don't want him coming in at the expense of our younger players, especially with blokes like Moloney to come back in to the side.

I'd take him as he'd make a decent depth player but if we traded for him he'd probably expect a starting 22 spot (even though that doesn't make sense as he struggled to make Essendon's 22) and that could hurt the likes of Jones, Bartram, Sylvia, Bate etc.

What would we trade for him? They'd ask for a second rounder and to be honest I wouldn't want to trade and draft picks :S. What if we got a Bartram-esque player late in the draft?

Well obviously Danners, Craig Cameron and whoever else believe he might be of some worth IF they actually inquired about him.

After the last few years I'd be willing to back their judgement, but that also rests on what we need to part with.

Where is this struggling to make Essendon's 22 thing coming from? He had a week or two at Bendigo when he was struggling for fitness after his pre-season foot injury, and missed one late in the season with a minor hamstring niggle, but played 19 games. He wasn't his normal self, even though he still found a bit of the ball, in the first half of the year but his second half was strong enough to push him to 7th in the B&F despite everything going wrong for him. Go back a year and he won the B&F, I'll be pissed if we lose him.

But wouldn't you be happy if you got a few draft picks for him? I know I probably wouldn't be as a Melbourne supporter but, lets be honest, a premiership tilt is a few years off for the dons and I doubt JJ will be around still.
