Re: Jason Roe

I think he is a vital part of our defence and if he can get that decison making right then i think he can become an excellent defender.

TBD good on you for using the term 'chop out' just feel free to acknowledge me when using the term! ha

Re: Jason Roe

Does a lot of desperate team stuff, quite often sprints his ass off to give his team mates a chop-out.

When it works, he also gives good drive from defence. Has a tendency to get run down from behind but that hasn't happened yet this year.

Stays in the team for mine.

i agree TBD. i cant fault him so far this year. he has looked towards the middle of the ground and to kick it to the forwards, which is great as we need drive when the likes of drummond or ash aren't playing well. He also gives us good defensive skills, supports team mates well and can hold his own man pretty well.

Just adds a lil something having Rog, Patfull and Roe in the same backline. They are well supported and balanced by the likes of Jmac, Ash, Drummond and Adcock as well

Re: Jason Roe

Roe likes to take the game on, but he probably suffered from his team mates running out of legs, giving him few options and exacerbating his suspect decision making.

Voss has said he will support players who make 'attacking' mistakes, so I think he'll keep his spot.

Re: Jason Roe

Played a good game Fri night, didnt do his selection any harm. He provides that run and carry we need from our defence. We just ran out of legs in the last term and it might have caught him out.

Re: Jason Roe

He certainly does some of those things, but he was Medhurst's direct opponent when he got on that roll of 2-3 quick goals. Roe was consistently caught behind and didn't have the closing speed to shut him down.

Probably as much of a match up problem as much as anything else, but currently he isn't up to manning monster forwards, or clever leading ones. He might be a good 3rd man up in contests, but I'm worried about whether him letting his direct opponent get loose becomes a liability to our team.

Re: Daniel Merrett

suddenly we could have Merrett, Roe and Hendo as our defenders, which is fantastic. Im sure they wont risk him unless he is 100% right to go, with the break the week after, it just isn't worth risking him.

Have you seen Roe play recently? Why do you think it is that even in our direst straits he hasn't been getting a game?

Desperate times...

I think (assuming Merrett doesn't play) that he's our best Franklin option left.

I recall some posters here saying 6 or so weeks ago that we were on a hiding to nothing if we had to use Mitch Clark in the ruck. Sometimes you need to lay the challenge down to some players when you have no other option.

Re: Daniel Merrett

I think if Roe is given a job and sticks to it, he can do a good job. His problem seems to be when he leaves his man too much. He is great at coming over and supporting other defenders, but sometimes does it when it isn't needed and leaves his man free. He has a good shape and is fairly strong. If given a job to shut down a player, i think he can do it.

Re: Jason Roe

agreed, Roe has gotten the callup simply be default, there's no1 else on the list of his size left thats available.

This game will just about determine whether Jason Roe is on the list next year id have thought (no idea where his contract is at?? does it expire this year??).

Re: Jason Roe

well he did everything we could have asked of him against the Hawks. Granted he was aided greatly by our midfield pressure but he was only beaten 1-1 once from memory??

interesting to see what happens at the selection table assuming Drummond and Merrett are available after the break, considering Hendo had a more-than-fair game himself.

Re: Jason Roe

1st game ive seen him play for a long time and got a few questions:
dose he still have that massive vertical leap he use to have?
also how good is he at kicking for goal?

cose if hes still got that vertical leap he might fit in the foward line just groom his kicking cose its going to b tough for him to get in to the back line once the rest are back.
thanks peanut

Re: Jason Roe

Some telling contested marks when they were on top helped to keep us in it. Seemed cool with the pill as well. Hope he keeps it up.

Re: Jason Roe

We are looking for our next CHB, Roe can step up and make this role his own. Apart from his disposal yips, he's a good defender with nice rebound. Would be nice if we get this for the remaining rounds:

MacDonald Merrett Drummond
McGrath Roe Patfull

Re: Jason Roe

I'd more or less written this bloke off as lacking in the key Voss hardness factor. He has the height, catch, run, and usually the kick, but always seemed to me to be a bit backward in coming forward in direct contests.

Sunday's effort showed he is more than capable of being nasty- keep it up I say.

Re: Jason Roe

I suspect he was made to look good by our midfield pressure, so there were a lack of good quality passes coming into Buddy. My gut feeling is that if it hadn't been for that, he would've been exposed by Buddy's speed and strength in front of him.

Who wouldn't ? Thought he held his nerve and delivered for coach and team.

Re: Jason Roe

Like Patfull, not really suited at CHB but at his best a good tall defender - I prefer Henderson at CHB presuming Clark is now a ruckman.

Re: Jason Roe

I haven't been Roe's biggest fan this season but I thought he did well against the Hawks. I still think he was helped a lot by guys like Adcock and Clark who pushed back to fill holes and also by our midfiled dominance and pressure. Having said that he seemed to keep Franklin on a tighter leash than he normally keeps on his opposition forward which was good to see. I also liked the way he played with more hardness at the contest and generally seemed stronger than he usually does.

Still prefer to see Henderson keep his spot over Roe when the other defenders get back because of the upside in Henderson, but I think he showed on the weekend he is a good depth player.

Re: Jason Roe

Our priority should be to play Henderson. Roe will probably hold his spot, i cannot see Vossy bring all 3 injured straight back in. I think Vossy will also be interested to see what Roe might be able to bring to the team. He has all the attributes!

Re: Jason Roe

so dose any else think he could work in the foward line or is just a thought of a mad man.
same hight as brady, great vertical leap, seems to be quick off the mark, has a solid body and has a defensive mind from playing back.

all in all he could turning in to another brady that can play back or forward

He can play in the forwards and can kick a goal - not as strong and robust as Bradshaw but has that versatility.

He is at an age where he can improve a lot - if he does he will take some keeping out of the team - which after all is what team building is all about.
