I don't follow Port at all, so I have no idea regarding Pittard's form. But I wonder whether he being dropped might signify that he's told the club that he's likely to leave?

It's ok team he doesn't own a dog so 99.9% chance he's a Roo.

Just make sure we don't send him a link to google maps because I hear he is planning to live in the bayside suburbs. Then again, maybe we should send him a link to google maps if he has been dropped by Port for poor form.

Ken Hinkley says axed defender Jasper Pittard wants to remain at Port Adelaide — despite being linked to Victorian clubs

June 16, 20172:34pm

DUMPED Port Adelaide defender Jasper Pittard wants to remain at the AFL club, his coach Ken Hinkley says.

Pittard, a potential target of clubs in his native Victoria when falling into free agency at season’s end, has been dropped for Port’s match against Brisbane on Saturday.

But Hinkley says Pittard’s long-term future is separate from a form slump which led to his omission for the twilight Adelaide Oval fixture.

“I know one thing, Jasper wants to play for Port Adelaide,” Hinkley told reporters on Friday.

Pittard is one of three players axed in response to Port’s meek 70-point loss to Essendon last weekend.

“No-one takes it great — you lose your spot in the side and you’re a proud person,” Hinkley said.

“Jasper is that. Like any player, he’s disappointed but he’ll respond and he will get back.

“It’s just one of those times and a need for Jasper probably just to relieve some pressure.

“He has been trying absolutely everything he can to get the form that he wants and it’s just not quite working for him.

“So I think this weekend will be a relief for him. And then get back into form, we know he’ll respond pretty quick.”

Port Adelaide’s Jasper Pittard rejects big money offers to stay at Alberton for next three years

PORT Adelaide defender Jasper Pittard is turning his back on AFL free agency with a three-year contract extension at Alberton.

Pittard, 26, is also turning his back on significant offers from at least two AFL clubs in his home city of Melbourne - deals he could have picked up with no hurdle to change clubs.

As an unrestricted free agent, Pittard had a free pass to whichever club he wanted to join.

His commitment to the Power - which has held on to the bulk of its uncontracted players in the past five years, is another massive boost for the environment built by coach Ken Hinkley and his football chief Chris Davies.

Players stay at Alberton - and re-sign with a minimum of fuss. It is a stark contrast to events at the other end of West Lakes Boulevard with the Adelaide Football Club.

Read into Pittard’s decision how Hinkley builds meaningful relationships with his players. This is even after he has dropped Pittard twice this season - and both have admitted to have walked down a rocky road as coach and player.

Pittard has struggled to recapture last year’s form - when he was an All-Australian contender - on the back of an interrupted pre-season.

He has battled soft-tissue issues - such as the calf injury that put him on the sidelines at the weekend - and chronic groin soreness throughout this season.

The Power’s willingness to sign Pittard to a three-season extension emphasises the belief at Alberton that the rebounding defender still has easily three seasons of high-end football.

Port Adelaide might have been tempted to part with Pittard if his departure helped them receive a first-round pick as compensation - a prospect that is always difficult to read by the mysterious formula the AFL uses on compensation picks for losing free agents.

However, the deals offered interstate - and the dramatic change in the salary cap limit by the new collective bargaining agreement - put Pittard in the frame for a second-round draft pick in November when recruiting managers are predicting a shallow draft pool.

Now the attention turns to Jackson Trengove, a restricted free-agent. Port Adelaide’s strong salary cap base gives the Power the ability to match any offer from rival clubs - and lock the utility to a new deal at Alberton.

Trengove was dropped after the Showdown debacle a fortnight ago and has played the past two games in the SANFL.

With the development of defender Tom Clurey, the consistent form of fellow defender Tom Jonas and the successful return from a serious knee injury of Dougal Howard, the Power has struggled to find a spot for Trengove in defence.

The Power veteran has been forced to split his time between working as a go-to forward and as a pinch-hitting ruckman.

There are suitors in Melbourne, in particular Carlton. Those clubs in a desperate chase for a key defender will give Trengove options to consider.

Port Adelaide will offer Trengove - the first player in the dark hours of 2011-12 to declare his preference to be Power player when it would have been easy to leave - the chance to consider a new contract at Alberton.

But the Power is open to Trengove considering his options at the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Carlton.

Trengove had made it clear to the club he wanted to stay. He is now weighing up his options with bigger offers on the way - and uncertainty around his place in the Power’s best 22.

The Power started the season with two-thirds of its player list out-of-contract at season’s end. There are only a handful remaining to close.

Angus Monfries is expected to announce his retirement in the coming weeks, which leaves Karl Amon, Aaron Young, Brendon Ah Chee and Sam Gray as the most notable remaining signatures.

Given Young and Ah Chee’s inability to cement places in best team this season both may look elsewhere for greater opportunities.

The questions remains: Does Port Adelaide’s list-management team see a future for Young and Ah Chee at Alberton?

More importantly, what does this group need to find in the player market to go from a finals also-ran to a genuine premiership contender?

Port Adelaide lacks class and speed in the midfield. Geelong free agent Steven Motlop can solve this need.

Despite a frustrating career, Motlop is a match-winner and would work perfectly with the inside midfielders winning the ball.

Trengove’s departure from Albertson seems obvious as the development of key trio Billy Frampton, Todd Marshall and Howard takes precedence.

It would be an amicable split after eight years of admirable service from Trengove who has been highly paid by the club since 2011.
