A tired trope

An example of an enriched elite class forming in every socialist state please?
Lol. It'd be quicker to list ones that didn't? Of which there are zero.

But okay. The ruling class of Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Cambodia for starters. Would you rather live in North or South Korea? In China, or Japan (or even Taiwan)?

It's a theory that sounds great on paper but is not supported by anyone with the faintest idea of human psychology or pragmatism. Hence minimum wage Starbucks employees with philosophy degrees love it, people with actual life experience do not.

Such a reddit take, with a meme as proof and a list of socialist countries

Lets take a closer look fire, which country would you like to choose? note:I don't think Cambodia was a socialist state under any definition

I'd love to take some of your ideas to a deeper point, you might be surprised

I'm not seeing a problem here, Argentina is an economic and cultural basket case and is desperately in need of serious reform.

How does one become a “Cultural” basket case?

Isn’t sport a key element of culture?

What’s the world’s biggest sport?

Which nation just won the world’s most covered sports contest???

Knowing a bit about the history of Latin America an election of a populist far right winger is usually followed by a socialist. We’ve just seen that play out in Brazil.

Milei doesn’t have anywhere the majority he needs in the parliament to enact the radical changes he wants. All he can really do is blow a lot of hot air.

The choice was Milei or the finance minister of the government in power for 16 of the last 20 years while the Argentine economy was completely destroyed and inflation ran at 150 % per YEAR

The president before Milei has already left for Spain where he bought an entire hotel among other properties with money he stole while president

The finance minister who was the other choice, Sergio Massa, moved to the USA the day after losing the election to Milei where he's taken a job at a billion dollar hedge fund in charge of their Latina America division

But yeah a bunch of leftists in Australia who will never experience suffering like the Argentine people have since 2001 goanna sit back and tell them they should have voted the same scum into office again

Soviet Russia was in a parlous state by the early 90s, yet undergoing economic shock therapy and selling off almost all government assets didn't lead to widespread prosperity. In fact it led to life expectancy taking a serious dive.

Cool, now do Yugoslavia before nationalism tore it apart.

Your defense of socialism is the utopian case study of... Yugoslavia?

There's a good reason why no one older than 25 supports such an ideology (other than those who are extremely unhappy and are looking for a scapegoat). It sounds great on paper but is completely incompatible with human nature.

Be aware it's FK and he will just slip out with a "lol I was kidding don't be such a sour lefty!"
Hey boss by all means offer a real life example of it working. Aren't we all into evidence and facts here? What, Yugoslavia with their "it's socialism but we briefly improved when we implemented private ownership (ie capitalism)"?

Refugees from Cuba, Venezuela, NK etc would wanna kick your arse son. The Berlin wall was a great example: East Germany needed it to keep people in, West Germany needed it to keep people out. As has consistently been the case with socialist vs capitalist nations, see Korea.

I'm sorry that history has repeatedly and categorically proven that you are incorrect!

I didn't see a single reason in that comment as to why Yugoslavia was bad, let alone whether it had an entrenched rich elite.

Calling employee co-operatives private ownership is a bit like calling a cow a horse.

I think what a lot of people call “socialism” is in fact a highly regulated free market system that works within a strong welfare state (Scandinavia and Europe for instance).

Yugoslavia was bad because......oh yeh they agreed to IMF policies of austerity and privatisation,
Which resulted in......checks notes......ah yes balkanization and genocidal warlords taking power.

Capitalism, the great saviour as always

So any examples other than the utopian paradise of Yugoslavia? Millions of refugees are risking their lives attempting to get into capitalist countries like Aus, the US, Euro countries etc. Any examples of this occurring with socialist countries, or is the traffic all one-way and Yugoslavia is the gold standard? :$

Quick one: a socialist, a marxist, and a nihilist walk into a bar. The bartender says "we don't serve anyone under 18 here".

Get some life experience under your belt, my ideologue chums.

That's it. Capitalism with a safety net. And what many progressives refuse to mention when they spruik the systems of these nations is that these are quite monocultural societies (as was Yugoslavia).

I don’t see why that is an issue. Am I meant to not want to give universal health coverage to a fellow Australian if they are of non European background?

Plus a lot of the people who use that talking point also complain Europe is too multicultural now so you can’t have it both ways

That's not what my post was about.
Well didn't you imply that I'd made a point so absurd that I would defend it by claiming that I was joking? I was stating that socialism has achieved nothing but death and misery every time it has been implemented. That's not a joke, it's like stating that water is wet m8. The only counter argument made was that a country that no longer exists was briefly prosperous during a short period when they had actually just allowed private ownership and shifted away from socialism. Yugoslavia, talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel 😆

Can't ban common sense m8. But give me the nordic version of socialism any day of the week.

I'm in Argentina right now two blocks from the hotel where Milei is living. It's an average mid priced hotel by Australian standards, Albo wouldn't be caught dead there, but Milei is of the people. The silent majority are overwhelmingly in favour of Milei crushing the protesters many of whom are agents from Cuba and Venezuela here to sow chaos

You would think he could prove that, then. Got proof?

As long as people have a father figure to chase the bad man away they will give up their democracy.

What a win for the people!
You must be looking at my IP address as cheif ?

I've been a spousal argentina resident since 2000 and this js the greatest moment of our lives Milei is not Trump he is a Trump of actions 10000 better than Trump

Argentina is West Germany after Ww2. We are in heaven. I love you Milei
