Hey I was just wondering what you guys think about Attard...
Do you know why he was dropped, do you hope he has a successful future with St.Kilda?, do you think he has a lot if improving to do?, do you regret losing him or are you glad to see him gone?
I'm a big fan of him, he is a quiet worker, he does his job, no less, rarely more but I think he has quite a bit of potential and I am looking forward to seeing him return from his acl...

I didnt see enough of Attard to really figuire him out. He debuted the same game as Sherman, Sherman kicks 3 goals and steals the limelight. In a year when the team struggled through injury Attard didn't play many games considering.

I was surprised we let him go as early as we did (was he only on the list for two years?), which would suggest that Leigh had already concluded that he would never have a spot for him on the field as a lion.

Just a "meh" sort of player.

Doubt he will be any more than a tagger but he was never really given a chance by us. He had more of a run this year with the Saints, but I couldn't see him breaking into our midfield.

I wish him well though. It's such a shame he did his knee while he was going pretty well. I would take back Gram in an instant - but he was offloaded for different reasons (to keep the premiership squad together).

I would agree that he is unlikely to ever be anything more than a tagger...
I would like it if he could be a reliable back pocket that can keep his opponent quiet and use his 10 touches well, that is what he does most weeks (although it's usually about 5 touches), I would love it if he could become a part of our midfield rotations because with a bit of confidence at times he looked promising in the middle...

As for Gram, I have to thank you guys for that, but jeez he would go good at Brisbane, Gram and Adcock/ Lappin running off the back flank looks great...

Decent player, never a superstar. Still, he gave his all and I respected him for that and was glad for him that he found another club. He was going pretty good for you, in his way, before the injury.

In all honesty, for whatever reason, I though he got less opportunities than he probably deserved. There are a few question marks over his skill level, but from what I saw:

a). He seemed to keep himself strong and fit
b). Was always hard at it, never shirking an issue.
c). Seemed to hold himself well under fire.

At the time, with heavy injuries and an ageing top end, he looked cut out for the situation. Pratt was a similar type. Hard, no fuss, always know exactly what you're getting type.

Still, I'm certainly not pushing any conspiracy theories -- he wasn't really kicking the door down at any stage, and neither Jayden nor Daniel were true 'make a difference players'. They do their jobs, but don't really influence results. You could argue that some of their contemporaries that were preferred have had more impact -- Sherman, Stiller, Rischitelli, Roe, Patfull and Drummond.

The thing is, with the delistment rules, it's the Attard types who are always first to go. In an ideal world, it would be nice to be able to reward the kind of attitude that got a less skillful player to the stage where he's on the cusp of AFL standard, but the system's not designed for that.

I think it does demonstrate the success of the Lions drafting. Attard and Tom Logan are two examples of players that we've ended up delisting that have been picked up and done OK at new clubs. Maybe we shouldn't have delisted them - however, as has been stated many times, you then have to single out the person that you would have delisted instead as limited list numbers inevitably mean hard calls have to be made.

Attard did fall into the long list of former Lions players who found another home. In fact, we probably have the largest percentage of players who get another chance with another club. It forms a pretty decent team with the ones in bold still playing:

B: Pratt, Michael, Voss
HB: Gram, Bolton, Attard
C: Headland, Hadley, Hilton
HF: Caracella, Morrison, Shattock
F: Molloy, Barker, Cupido
Foll: Clarke, O'Bree, Akermanis
Int: Wood, Robbins, Lawrence, Clayton

Others: Baird, Knobel, McLaren, Weller, Spaanderman, T. Lynch, Bamford, Bartlett, Carter, Calthorpe, Rusca, Pask, Green, Chapman

Plenty of duds in that group with the Bulldogs, Collingwood, and St Kilda picking up the majority of discards/trades. The Dogs certainly picked up the most spuds. Richmond didn't have a lot of luck (Weller, Morrison, Hilton) while Hawthorn (Barker) and Sydney (Bolton) would be happy with theirs.

This does include trades and delistings.

Look Gilbo, Jayden has done a lot better at St Kilda, in leaps and bounds. Don't worry about the past and keep supporting him.
You don't have to worry about that, I love the young fella, I was just interested on what Brisbane spporters thought of him, I watched two of his games with you, I think they were his only two and I remember being quite surprised to see him omitted, at the time I thought I wouldn't mind him at St.Kilda....
Did his knee in the last game of this year didnt he?
Nah I think it was about round 20, he was keeping Cousins quiet, he goes down, Cousins steps up, that's the end of the game and our season...
