Surely this bloke deserves his own thread, kicked 6 tonight and was terrific. Very quick, great tackler and marker for his size and gives his all to the contest.

He has kicked 30 goals from 16 games this year which is a fantasic effort and a great return for a small forward.

He is often overlooked when talking about our future improvement and where it will come from. I believe he will be able to move into the midfield and be and impact player whilst contributing a lot of goals.

Great value off the rookie list and is fine prospect for this footy club.

I'll admit I've bagged the Blues' recruiting in the past, but Jeff Garlett has been an absolutely superb pick up. He's pretty close to my favourite player in the team!

Well done Mini-Franklin!

Definetly deserves his own thread. I've heard a tired convo on talk back radio the last few weeks asking "which carlton players have really improved this year"...well, he is definetly one, x 100. The way he finds space is just incredible...especially when a goal is needed, the way he sucks his man up to the ball, then drops back for the crumb...just awesome. And his speed...gun.

I've said it a few times before and tonight reinforced it more than ever. This kid is ahead of Yarran and I don't care what anyone says.

Yarran may have more skill with the ball in his hands, but Garlett has proven it now by stamping himself and being the most dominant forward in a crucial game for the club.

His endeavour, tenacity and multiple efforts when the ball is in his vicinity should be recorded and played to Yarran as an example of what determination and will for the ball can do.

I don't know about you guys, but can I just say I have so much admiration for Garlett. Two years ago he was living in his car, playing for the swan districts in W.A. To have been pick up by an AFL club (luckily Carlton), move over to a big city, away from his family and to play courageous football against guys who are twice his size and look as though they could snap him in two, is such a true attribute of a strong character. I love this kid.

It has been such a long time since I remember watching a player wearing the Navy Blue, who is electrifying. So much so that whenever he is near the ball my anticipation gets the better of me, as I know anything can be possible with a bit of Garlett magic. He really does have that Coorie spirit which no players other than the players with aboriginal blood running through their veins possess:D. Lance Franklin, Neon Leon, Adam Goodes, The Krouker Brothers, Adam Long and this list goes on.

And to make matters even more pleasing for us Carlton folk, is that fact we can include Fast Eddie and the Mr SMOOTH of the trio, Yarren. I think as Carlton supporters should take some time out and think about the fact that we are blessed to have the talent of our aboriginal players, including Walker and Anderson who have made difficult life changing decisions for the betterment of their people, our mighty club and more importantly, themselves.

I love Jeffrey Garlett and can't hide my excitement that we will be able to watch 10 yrs of Garlett magic.....Fast Eddie magic.....Chris'MR SMOOTH' Yarren.

GO BLUES!:D:D:D:D:D

:thumbsu: Great post

Awesome player. Ridiculously talented, and a great attitude to back it up. Just love the way he kicks the footy - relaxed, with brilliant timing. He clears 50m with ease because he times his kicks so well. Noticed he bursts through the middle on occasions, using his pace to catch opposition midfielders and create a turnover. Probably won't get the NRS nomination because that award is primarily based on

A) Dreamteam points
B) Whether you play for Collingwood or Melbourne
C) How many times your name is mentioned in the media

They might be forced to make an exception this week. He should have won it on at least 3 occasions before. That award is starting to become a joke.

BTW, I have noticed the Blues small forwards doing/trying a few more tricks. Earlier on they were just leading forward and catching the defenders on the backlead. But now there's a few setups that they've been working on to create opportunity against the extreme ultradflooders like the Pies. Could be a very interesting finals series if we can get our powerful midfield and elite small forward talent to fire.

Okay, so I was totally wrong about this bloke.

(1) I thought they were bringing Jeff over to keep Yarran happy, he'd play a couple of seasons, maybe get a gig in the Bullants if he was any good. Wrong.

(2) I thought he was too small and skinny to play AFL. I still do but the little bugger's made out of elastic, he took that hit last night, went boi-oi-oing, hit the ground, went boi-oi-oing, and he's back on his feet and chasing in about half a second like one of those punchy clowns. How soon we forget Matty Lappin.

(3) I love Eddie and Chris but Jeff is the hungriest of the three. Never stops chasing.

(4) I used to think the mark of a very good full forward was 10 goals in a game. I changed that to 8 goals because the game's changed. To me, the mark of a very good small is 5 goals in a game - and that's why Jeff and Eddie are better value than blokes like Leon Davis.

My man-love for Jeffy is through the roof - he's a little gem.

I've had my concerns this season as to whether he'll stay with us beyond this season, and I am still a little concerned, but hopefully performances last night where he is an integral part of a big win, against a big rival, at the G in front of a big crowd, goes a long way to convincing him to stay with us.

He is a hugely talented fella that never gives up. Needs to work on his consistency a little but he's a fantastic young footballer that is only going to get better - and I hope that he realizes that Carlton is the best place for him to be.

Garlett is absolutely astounding. And probably one of the most consistent players we have too. Great defensive skills and a bit of magic.

If we can settle Lachie and Waite at our leading talls - get them making leads constantly, Garlett and Betts will run riot. Yarran is tough one. I really like him, but consistency is the trick. I'm sure he'll come good.

Suggested yesterday in the 'West Coast chasing small forward' thread, that Garlett will develop into the best of all of our little men. Does things with the ball that others simply cannot.

Never stops trying either... goes missing a lot less than Yarran and Betts because his attitude keeps him involved.

Could develop into an absolute freak. :thumbsu:

Yarran's a different prospect altogether though. - More of a McLeod type. IMO they're both better than that front-running, junk time specialist, Eddie Betts. Now that we have Garlett we desperately need to trade Betts for something while he still has some over-inflated value.

Hats off to Garlett's goal kicking accuracy too. About time we found a forward that can kick straight :thumbsu:

He looks like he has more natural talent then Yarran and Betts when he is on song. Just cannot catch the bloke, tackle the bloke or stop the bloke when he has the ball in his hands. I would back his "excitement" factor over Betts 9/10.

Hope to god we don't trade him. Even for a first rounder. Absolute gem of a player and gun of a pick in the rookie draft!
