Jelena Dokic 'appreciation thread'

Good on her. It's good to get a round at the French, especially given her recent form and lesser record on clay. Tougher assignment against Dementieva in the second round.

It was good for her to get a win here. I didn't see any of the match, but from the stats it seems as if the 2nd set was very good for her. Will be interesting against Dementieve, lets see how she goes. Hopefully she gives a good account for herself.

Shame she retired, but the signs were good, mind you Elena played her worst match for 5 years, she was horrid. Dokic loves the grass, provided she avoids the Willams sisters, she is a fair chance getting to the 4th round at Wimbledon!

Was really sad to hear that she went down retired. Even sadder when I saw that she had the wood over Dementieva. Really hope she's there for Wimbledon. Just around the corner and she obviously plays well on grass.

Get well soon Jelena!:thumbsu:

Just watched her match now and she was on fire. Especially the first 6 points of the match, all winners. Playing like she had nothing to lose, which she didn't.
Her injury was fairly innocuous, blink and you miss it type stuff. Dementieva went to serve and netted it, Dokic prepared to hit the ball and bang there goes her back.

She's supposedly going for scans today, so we'll know the extent of the injury soon. Fingers crossed it's doesn't cost her too much of the grass court season.

A tale of two Dokics
May 30, 2009 - 11:36AM

Tennis comeback queen Jelena Dokic is expected to bounce back from the excruciating back injury which cruelly forced her out of the French Open.

The Australian saw doctors in Paris on Friday after suddenly injuring her lower back the previous day when she was up a set and dominating her second-round match against Russian world No.4 Elena Dementieva at Roland Garros.

Dokic, 26, underwent treatment on her back and an MRI scan to determine whether the injury could spell the end of the former world No.4's comeback dreams.

But her management said the doctors believed Dokic would not suffer any permanent damage.

"It's a day-by-day process at the moment," her spokesman said.

"But we don't believe it will be anything long term."

Well at least it's not a long term injury. :thumbsu:

She's not in the qualifying draw for Eastbourne.
Looks like she has gone back to Serbia.
Really, really dumb move. Mind blowing.

Is her back still giving her troubles? Although she was supposedly training that morning and wasn't in the qualies daw the same night.

Now it is the back. Wierd, contradicting stories everywhere. Couple of days ago she confirmed she'd be fit to play and that her back is fine. Couple of days later Eastbourne site saying she's pulled out due to personal prblems, now this saying her back is still problematic.
Who knows.

As long as she plays Wimbledon, and not bowing down to her Dad's fat arse, im happy. :)

If she does go to see him, then I can only conclude that she is not 100% serious about giving her all to tennis. If she cannot put him behind her, then she will never move on and the emotional baggage will always weigh her down.
