Picked up this guy last year didn't have much idea as to who he was. Great efforts from him this year has really been a good pick up. Much better option in defense than Paul Bower. Played a ripper game last night and was a bit stiff to give up that goal where he took a mark that wasn't paid. Things can only get better for this guy. :thumbsu:

Just solid as a rock in defense. Probably our 2nd best mark behind Jamison, too. Love him:thumbsu:

Geelongs loss our gain, very brave defender, he goes when it's his turn to go, and I love that shit! :thumbsu:

Though Duigan's had the fanfare, thought Laidler had the better season. Duigan is all courage but there's a couple chinks in his armour, whereas Laidler has none that come to mind.

Yeh great post, he was superb last night almost our best player.

Had a great year and what a great get by the club, thanks Ratts !

I cant remember him playing a bad game all year?

I've told this story before, but I shall repeat since the year has finished, I bumped in to Hamish McLachlan (who is a Cats fan) at Carlton pre-season training last year and he told with confidence that Laidler was an absolute steal, he should be in Geelong's best 22 and that he couldn't understand why he was being released rather than dropping Millburn.

He was pretty much spot on. Laidler should be a really solid player with another year or two under his belt. He was a steal.

Tough and uncompromising. He and Robbo are the first to fly our flag. He also doesn't mind making people earn a kick. Something we've been missing for a while. (He really is a dasher clone - and despite his knocking SOS out dasher has been an excellent player over the journey)

He amounts to more than what I've mentioned but this is a particular part of his game that I love. All great sides have a player like this bloke.

I have nothing but admiration for Jeremy. He's been a rock in defence when we (again) had injury issues and had to leave too much work to too few. I really hope that going forward, guys like Laidler get to play the roles they are most suited to rather than having to play above their height/weight.

Letting Milburn hang around for another year looks like it might hurt Geelong defensively in the long term. Loyalty it seems, can be a two-edged sword.

His strength is clearly his positioning and reading of the flight of the ball when going for his marks. He's also prepared to scrap when it hits the deck and loves cutting across and giving his fellow defenders a chop out with little thought for his own safety. A real gem.

This year we picked up two brilliant mid-sized defenders in Nick and Jeremy.

They both have chinks in their armor, but they just work so well together as a pair you would think that they have been together for 5 years already. How often this season when the ball goes long into our defense has it been one or the other mopping it up and clearing the lines. They usually look for the other one as well when trying to move out of defense.

Jeremy has been the absolute steal of the trade last year and I reckon that there are a lot of Geebung supporters looking at him and looking at Milburn and wondering how their club managed to **** that up.

Cheers Laids... here is the hope that you spend many years with us and taste that ultimate glory of winning a premiership in the Old Dark Navy Blue.

The best thing about Laidler is you don't have to worry with him. If a ball could be spoiled, he'll spoil it, if it can be marked he'll grab it, if a guy can be tackled (and isn't running away from him) he'll get them. Great defensive player with a really good kick (Left foot?)

Duigan fair enough, but what flaws does Laidler have? Good mark, long raking kick, yet to be exposed for speed. Seems a very well rounded defender.
