Rubbish. It's not an excuse. You can't have 22 champions in your side and fit them under the salary cap. Watch some junior footy and after the top 10 picks, most have some weakness somewhere. JR was pick #9 in a weak draft and comes with high expectations.....but putting that aside for a minute, how often do you hear a key to a sides performance is how the bottom 6-7 players are going? IF JR holds down that spot and plays his role each week and has a good defensive side (something I am rating higher and higher in junior players these days) then you overlook some of the negatives. It's also not as if he still doesn't have some improvement in him. Your argument is ok, but a little optimistic that every player will have the attributes of Kreuzer or Gibbs. You talk about mediocrity....mediocrity in my book is playing selfish footy or attacking footy and the expense of the defensive side of the game. With Judd, Gibbs, Fev, Waite, Stevo and Murph, the defensive side of the lower tier is what will lift us above mediocrity IMO.

Where I agree with you is that it doesn't excuse the skill errors or poor decisions, but what it does in my book is buy him some more time to work on those aspects of his game.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think I'm asking much by thinking that a guy with some speed who can sometimes take a mark on a lead be able to kick straight over 30m. If he continues to make these simple errors both at goal and trying to hit a teammate I think his time is limited. He has almost had 4 years on the list and next year there will hopefully be a host of new players that will make it very difficult to keep giving him games if he doesn't perform.

Those aspects will need to improve as we keep strengthening the list :thumbsu:. i hope they do because I like JR's physical and attributes.

In all seriousness Gilly, does it get tiring defending the indefendable?
Yes JR was taken in a weak draft, we all know that, but time and again, his disposal lets him down, and I won't even go into his shocking set shot record this year.

You've seen enough U18 football to know that even we look for kids who can kick, hit targets, and are good under pressure. JR shows very little of these attributes, although his field kicking seems pretty solid.

Russell reminds me of Glascott, always turning the ball over. Couldn't hit a target if his life depended on it. He not only misses gimme goals, he costs us goals at the other end, as a direct result of his shitty disposal.

Look I can, but I didn't type that out very well.
He's had all year to make a spot in his team his own, and I really thought he would grab it with both hands. However, the fact remains his kicking for goal is a disaster.

I duno in general play his goal kicking has been fantastic.
I rekon his kicked about 8 goals trying to play on after a free kick, remarkable stuff, anyone else notice this?

I even ran this through the CIA's most sophisticated code-breaking software and still nothing.
