How good is this kid? I've heard some very good reports about him since he was a junior and this season at the Bullants. Sounds like an in and under midfielder with good skills and vision, can kick a goal too.

Will he be promoted along with Setanta O'hAilpin? Seems to be a good size at 183cm and 85kg so has the body ready to step in next season.

Does anyone foresee this guy playing good senior footy for the Blues next year? Any fans out there of Smith?

Yeh massive fan of Jesse - started this thread mid year and he seemed to have many fans who watched the bullants play. Main reason he will be finding it hard to fit into the midfield will be our need for some pacey midfielders. Bentick, murphy* and smith are all similar. Kouta and stevens aren't the quickest players either.

Should be elevated and will be a worthy contributor whenever he is given a go - also has the ability to tear apart a game!

There'll be no room on the Senior List for him, at the moment. I think you'll find there will be a lot more delistings next year, compared to this year.

Very good player, but difficult to see where he'd fit in... as has been said.

well pointed out OZBomb

2006 could see: kouta retire

and there are still question marks over or contracts ending for:
livo, davies, longmuir, chambers, bannister, wiggins, sporn, prendergast

most likely to be just retained on the rookie list.

Agreed, I think we are little hamstrung with a few contracts still having another year to run. ie/ Bannister, Prendergast, Davies. If these guys were out of contract this year, they'd be gone.

Smith will more than likely have to prove himself again as a Rookie Listed player for another season.

I believe put him onto the senior list this year, it will save us a spot on the list for next years super draft. Also Aisake will complete his second year on the rookie list so correct me if im wrong he will have to be promoted or delisted also. So i say promote him this year, delist 5-6-or even 7 next year and BRING ON THE SUPER DRAFT. A roughie for the super draft who will be of high value to us is Dean Putt.

If this guy can tear apart a game! then surely he should be lifted !
Im not sure what people are saying here though, is there no room becuase of Kouta and Stevens (two different players), or due to other players ?
cheers,
audas

Great player, who pagan said that he would love to get him on the senior list(was in the heraldsun in july) should be promoted, shows alot of guts, but lacks a bit of pace, but so did diesel, i say promote him and give him a go, i think we would be better off having him in the team.

International Rookies get more than two years

very good pkayer but can't fit on the senior CARLTON list? Sorry I don't want to ridicule but surely if he's good he should be promoted. I saw him last year looked really good....

The reason why we probably can't fit him on isn't because all other players are better than him but rather because many of our dud players have a year running on their contract (Chambers, Longmuir, Prenda, Davies, Bannister, Wiggins? etc), meaning that considering that Carlton don't want to be paying out these contracts that there isn't room for him.

That being said, I hope he is promoted or at the very least given a few senior games next year if there is a long term injury as he seems like the type of player that could be a very long future player.

Those who are calling for this guy's promotion clearly either didn't watch many Bullants games this year or have no idea about football. He is not up to it. In time he might become a solid VFL player but there is no way is he up to an AFL list. His athleticism is terrible and his football ability (even athleticism aside) is over-rated. Sorry, I would like to see someone like this kid get promoted but he is just not going to cut it. Barely got a game at certain stages this year. Was off the ground a lot.

FORGET HIM.

pathetic response windows overrated ? seen every bullants game and jesse d smith showed alot more than other drafted players consistently given good game time and specific jobs to do hard at it player with great skills and agreat motor sorry to spoil your party but jesse will play seniors next season as pagan is abig rap on this kid likens him to chad fletcher so im told would definetly be on senior list only for the above mentioned other clubs were told hands off carlton player i know this as afact

What games where you watching windows? Pagan came out in july and said that if he could promote him he would, now im only guessing, but i think pagan might be a better judge at smith than you are.And maybe jesse wont ever win a grand final sprint, but either would diesel williams, and smith plays alot like diesel, in and under.

are rookie listed players allowed to play x amount of games without someone going on the long term injury list anyway? or am i wrong

Rookies can only be promoted when a Senior Listed player is placed on the Long Term Injury List.

* Not 100% sure of the minimum time...........either 6 or 8 weeks I think.
* Maximum time is one season.

Glad to hear he is training so hard, real in and under player, and imo, is alot better than players we have on the list, keep up the hard work jesse and your chance will come.

Want to print a retraction to this Irish? Pagan just had the chance to promote him, but didn't. Gee I wonder why? Oh, that's right, he isn't up to it.

And btw I saw far more of Jesse at VFL level than you or Pagan for that matter. I don't guess, or read other people's posts and then make something up. I watch. And I don't just sit here and go "Jesse is great, and Jordan is unreal, and Adam Bentick is part of our future gun midfield group" on the back of HOPE like many others do.

I watch them. Bentick and Smith have the same problem - they have NO TANK and nothing else exceptional to replace it with. Comparing them to Diesel is ridiculous. Try Jason Johnson. He embarrassed Bentick for engine in the second last game and JJ isn't even notorious for that attribute. Didn't beat him by a bit. FLOGGED HIM. Ran down one end with Bentick, then dropped him like a bad habit on the way back. Then did it again and again and again.

And Smith....Smith? FOR GOD'S SAKE HE IS NOT UP TO IT!!!!!! He didn't get drafted last year, wasn't promoted this year, won't be drafted by anyone this year (even though he could be). He might get lucky like Bentick, sneak a few games in down the road somewhere, maybe even creep up to 20-30. Bentick might creep to 50. But there is no way known on earth will either play 100 games no way no way no way.

I can't believe how many posts I see from carlton fans including Bentick as a midfielder of the future. All that on the back of a good game against what was effectively the Collingwood reserves late in the year.

Once again, I have seen HEAPS of him in the twos, and he AIN'T UP TO IT EITHER.

Stop accepting mediocrity. That is not a trait that belongs with this club or its supporters. These guys will never help us win a premiership. No one more than I would like them to, but they just won't. At the moment we have Walks (I hope, fingers crossed still), Fev, Lance, Fish (fingers crossed), Teague, Stevens, Scotland, Waite, Thornton who have done enough to show they MAY play in a premiership one day.

That equals 9. 13 to go. Don't fill up the 13 with wishful thinking like Simpson, Bentick, Smith, Russell and on and on and on. SOME of these MIGHT make it to a very basic standard of AFL. MOST WON'T.

Carlton fans need a serious reality check......and better drafting.

Saw every game hey? If Smith is the next Fletcher why didn't Pagan put him on the list? Oh so Carlton goes "hands off" to the other clubs and they listen huh? Am I the only person laughing at this crap?

What did you think of Adam Hartlett's year - assuming you saw every game that is? Where did he play, what sort of contribution did he make? I know the answer to this, because I saw all bar about 3 games.

Guess what I know as a fact? You talk ********.

Wasn't Bentick supposed to be so good he was going to take the Bullants to the premiership after the season ended? He didn't do much at all.

After spending the majority of the year in the 2's if he was so good you'd think he might have polled at least one Liston trophy vote.

I played against Jesse in U16s and my team and I were so impressed with him that we played four guys on him in one quarter. I had to play on him for about ten minutes and he left me for dead. If you people claim that he isn't quick, then I'd hate to imagine what it would be like playing on Chris Judd. The guy burst through me three or four times and easily broke my tackles. He also kicked a couple of goals on me straight from centre clearances.

His side went on to win the premiership that year (Rupertswood in 2002) and he was the star player in a very, very good side.

Thankfully I didn't play in the game against Rupertswood later on in that season, but he dominated yet again from all reports from my teammates.
