I couldn’t see him asking to leave just now when we have made finals and although he won’t be playing this year, the future looking bright.

Serious question, is he expected to miss much of the pre season?

The scientific data, albeit the limited sample sizes in the study out of Melbourne, shows that navicular injury patients suffer functionality reduction and pain for at least an average of five years post injury. That was 100% returning functionality limitations, 100% returning pain and the average time since the injury for the patients was just over five years. Two thirds of which had bilateral injuries even though most of those had only reported the one. Susceptibility seems to be a factor, if you've had one you are likely to have another.

Hogan and Melbourne FC would need to consent to a radiological scan showing no break on both feet otherwise;
his function will be impaired and he isn't going to be the player he was two months ago
he will suffer through pain and that's not going to be conducive to an elite endurance athlete, so he won't be the player he could be

I'm very happy to let this one by. The price to buy a car without having the engine started for you is not as much as the car you can see drive, is not as much as the car you can take to your mechanic, is not as much as the car you can put through your own tests.

Good luck to him.

Initial reports were he’d start pre season as normal. Helped by the fact he doesn’t require surgery.
By the way, surgery had no improved outcome long term over conservative (moon boot) treatment in the study. That is those who had conservative treatment and those who had surgical intervention reported the same results - functionality impairment and pain.

I think due to there being a crack and not a break they went down the non surgical option. Sounds like you’ve done your research so not sure if that means much.

Clubs do their own scans of course. See Richmond and Trengove.

Unfortunately it doesn't. The study found undiagnosed, historical bilateral damage measuring up to 5mm in patients who had been treated on their other foot, both showed functionality and pain results.

A real bitch of an injury. I'm not saying his career is done, glue factory him or anything like that - but he will have a new ceiling.

This is not always the case, Joel Embiid had a navicular fracture in his rookie season and this year was an NBA all star. It's an annoying injury but that doesn't automatically mean he now has a lower ceiling.
