I think its a positive move to bring him into the back line.
When you look at our fwd line it will be hard for him to get a gig there next year.
Good size to him we all know, could be the big body in defense we have been calling for, for a long time..
Was interesting to read about how he has never really settled into one position. And how much he enjoyed playing in the back half.
I hope he plays 10 or more games next year..

I find him to be a pretty exciting prospect, wherever he plays. You have to love the big units! Do you think he'll get O'Loughlin's number when he quits? :D

Jess is one of those players that if you are having doubt in the forward line through him in if the back line is crumbling let him pick up the peices he is a hard worker! HUGE GUY great build and really big strong hands...have watched him take on pack and come out with the mark and def can kick a goal or two! I like him in the forward line because its hard for a defender to mark up on him because he is so big but also his basket ball back ground gives him good height, speed and agility!

I hope he gets a few more games next year

I have to take the word of people on this forum that Jesse White is a good player because the 2 games i have seen him play this year werent very promising. He didnt really seem to know what he was doing most of the time.

Though in saying that i hope he forfills the potential which so many on this board believe he has.

I agree wit that he looked a bit lost, though the thing he mentioned was he has been used as a bits and pieces player, which would come out especially in the seniors.
Thanks to Soph we get a good insight, i really want to see him settled into the one position.
Back line is good place for him, and if need be pinch hit him up fwd.
Playing him as a back man in the seniors will probably make him a better fwd..
Cheers sanecow for the correction.:thumbsu:

I find people generally underrate White, find him having shown little by judging him on the two games he has played this year.

In the reserves, he's confident, clean, agile and has an imposing presence, not just the way he plays, but the way he carries himself. Not all players can transfer themselves to senior footy like a Palmer, a Rioli or a Pat. Jesse's a confidence player, a big player, and he'll need a more permanent, fleshed out position than a parts player to settle into.

Maybe be the link up tall next year as Playfair was for parts of this year, just until he settles into the KP role.. and then transfer into the backline, which is where I see him anyway.

I didn't get it, and was like, huh? Then thought about it! Definately! :p

Defense? Has he played much there? Funny you say that though, I think Barry Hall would have made one of the greatest CHB of all time if commited to the possie, although I seem to be alone on that!

Haha, that would've been interesting. Would've given as much as he got, at least :D

He has played in the backline, and in an article it quoted him as saying he was interested in a role in the backline. He is interchangeable though, but if he does kick in, he could play either position with distinction. I'd love to see him use the agility and clean hands as a gun CHB, but him as CHF makes sense too.. leading is top notch, but that's just me.

He's played a fair bit in defence, usually at FB. There have been games at the SCG that us Noble folk haven't seen him all day, rotating between FB and FF with Grundy, quarter by quarter.

I'm not completely sold on him yet, but he has one thing that most big men don't have which may get him over the line....plenty of pace. He also has the confidence to use it and take blokes on with brute strength, which he has in abundance.

The Swans picked him up very late in the draft, so he was always going to be a project player and a gamble, but at this stage he is looking to be a winner. Just don't expect too much from him, especially in the short term.

I think he's been more consistently convincing in defence than as a forward. The game of his that really sticks in my mind is the 2007 GF (ACTAFL) against Queanbeyan, who have probably the best array of tall marking players in the competition. He played the whole game in defence and provided a consummate performance of well-timed spoiling - using his closing speed and vertical leap to great advantage.

It seems obvious to me based on comments Roosey made regarding leapin Leo's re-signing decision ( need to blood younger replacement) that he intends to play White at FB if he can show he is close to in best 22.

The inference that he has been told already, probably means a pre-season of upper body strength development and working on position specific skills?

Malcolm Blight tried to play him at FB at St Kilda and it was a disaster.

What you've identified, pace and confidence, are keys to White.
He's a big bloke, and as someone has pointed out, the big kids take time, but the fact he moves well, seems to have good hands and has some faith in himself ... I've said it before: I think he's going to be a star and I want to see him allowed to develop as a monster forward. Give him some time alongside Hall and MOL next season, a few games here and there, whatever, but I believe with White and Dan Currie we have two potentially outstanding big young guys in our ranks.

I agree that he could be apart of our spine so to speak, and am partially excited at the prospect of him becoming a regular fixture to our team.

Though to play up him fwd with Hall and MOL could be a bit of a disaster.
Grundy comes to mind when we put a young bloke up fwd with those two, the 3rd tall that doesnt get much of it.

Id be happier to see him get a regular gig in the back line and feel like he's getting somewhere within the team than perhaps running around in the fwd line and getting frustrated because he's not getting much action.

I keep going back to pre-season 07, when he kicked four goals playing FF.
Maybe I'm wrong and defence is his future, but either way I think he'll be a very good player for us.
He's a Queenslander, so I'd hope we give him plenty of opportunity soon, or he might be tempted by Gold Coast money.
