bloody inanimate objects and obstructions

first a fence takes out Hanners, now a pothole takes out White :o:(

hopefully he's back running before the season opener

but White's dismay, is Currie's opportunity

Dam it.

Not unlike last year with two forwards going into round 1 underdone. Lewis Johnston's injury really means he misses a chance here as well. Added to that Playfair must still be carrying an injury not to have played in the intra club or the nab cup it shows our forward line really is going to be new.

Quite possibly Goodes CHF and Pyke FF or do we think it will be Currie FF and Pyke ruck?

I'd rather trial Daniel Currie at Full-Forward, rather than Mike Pyke. What Pyke showed last year in the Ruck, he has adapted to the game quite quickly and did a good job for someone of his knowledge of the game.

Currie @ Full-Forward and Pyke in the Ruck, is the way I'd go.

White is a beast. The pothole must have been the size of the grand ****ing canyon. This will not stop him.

Pyke should not play. He was outclassed tonight and cost at least 2 goals from his terrible turnovers.
Currie can cover White with mumford and seaby in the ruck. Seaby was servicable tonight while not being our saving grace. But I really hope JDUB gets back soon.

Are you kidding, Currie was pathetic tonight.

Woah! Pathetic?

He presented well, and he clearly has HUGE hands. Nerves got the better of him. I found his ruckwork and positioning to be quite OK, just a bit of touch.

He clearly got better as the game went on.
It was his first outing, and will get better for it.

Also, the game clearly was not for tall men. Most talls struggled to take high marks tonight.

Yeh pathetic is a bit much for a tall who has never played a senior game. Some of his ruck work was actually quite crisp, i can recall a few taps that went down the throat of our men, Bird and McGlynn i think were the 2 they went to. And his mark on the 50 was nice. Tried hard and presented pretty well. There was also a really clean, quick handpass he delieverd in the forward 50 after the ball had hit the ground, i can't remember who he got it to though. Some positives out of his game for sure.

How many young ruckmen have better debuts? Besides which, fun fact for you: Currie took 50% of our contested marks last night.

He only took one mark though?

He's been on the list long enough that he needs to make a better debut than that in the season proper. If he even gets a chance.

Yep. Just shows you how difficult the conditions were for contested marking. Goodes took another contested mark. Two for the match. It was dewy, delivery was poor, and Carlton's backline is becoming quite a unit (Jamison and Bower have long been underrated).

Point being? Other players took uncontested marks. Quite a lot of them actually. How many uncontested marks did Currie take?

How many hitouts did he have? How many goals did he kick?

Its not all about stats stat, its still basically a practice match and a big step up to a level where he needs a little consistent game time, what better chance for him to get it, he would have been under instructions to do certain things, run to certain spots etc and he did show some signs, we dont know those instructions and he wasnt dreadful at all. He will sit down with the relevant coaching staff and watch the tape and will work hard on certain things and hopefully improve next week if given the chance.

this is a Jesse White thread anyway.

I was asking about uncontested marks as well.

I'll grudgingly back off on the pathetic comment as I watched the replay last night and in literally the last minute of play he had that good mark and then another bit of play which I totally missed from the other end of the ground that looked pretty good.

Roosy said in post match interview, MumFord and O'Keefe will return against Saints, Shaw and White probably the week after
