g'day Ted, all fair points I guess but I still think he should keep his spot, the space on the MCG will suit him...:thumbsu:

I agree on this!

The open spaces at the MCG should provide the likes of Jetta and perhaps Rohan plenty of run. I wouldn't expect he'll be dropped as I am sure Roos thinks the same.

what gets me is Roos was happy with him, capt Kirk was full of praise in an article on the swans board yet some of our supporters still call for his head? No faith in our leaders?
If thats what they are saying its good enough for me. His flashes of brilliance some expect all the time but its not gonna happen, just yet... Im gonna just sit back and enjoy watching him play footy (the freakish things are just a bonus) and see him get better every week and let the club do the thinking.

I'm really looking forward to how he plays this weekend. Last week was a game of two halves - lazy in the first half but full of run and chase in the second. Many of our players significantly lifted their intensity after half-time, but Jetta's lift was arguably the most noticeable. Rather than mostly wait to be fed the ball and then put the jets on, he started using his pace to run onto loose balls, or to handy spots. Sure, some of his disposal was suspect but I don't think that is indicative of his actual ability.

Did the penny drop at half-time last week about the onfield effort required to make a real impact? Or was it just a short term blip in a far more modest upwards trajectory?

'Intensity' should be the word of the week for all our players. We can compete with anyone if everyone commits, thats whats been frustrating me, we can all make excuses for not winning, injuries, umpires whatever, but theres no excuse for lack of effort. Im hoping the penny dropped and it was good to hear Kirk acknowledge this effort from our youngsters.

great double page spread on the Jetta's in todays paper, they are all coming good, Nev was great last week, Leroy was very good last night and last week. Loved the bit about Lewis telling the scout all about the twelve goals he kicked but he wouldnt listen... also interesting that our Jetta played full forward in his junior years for those saying he wouldnt be any good as a forward.
sorry I cant link.

Yeah I just noticed that, I googled 'Screaming Jettas' and found the article. Its a different picture than in the actual newspaper that has all three of them(melbourne herald sun). I just sat down to watch the Dees smash Geelong at home, Nev to star. Well Im hoping anyway.

Found space quite often yesterday but his disposal was a tad off. Put his body in a bit more, but was still a bit too cautious at times.

His run down the wing (which he probably ran too far) was thrilling and a great case in point of what he brings us. If he can steady up on his last few steps, his awesome pace and long kicking will be a huge asset.

Just want him to kick a ****ing goal!

I think he was also a bit unsure about how close the chaser was, and knew also that another step or two might have seen him pinged for running too far. So he had to dispose of it quickly and couldn't really balance himself. Didn't have a problem with where he kicked it given the options on offer. Got us a throw in in our pocket, at least.

Burgoyne isnt exactly slow, it was a very impressive turn of speed he just burned him...

From a Fan,

Watching Lewis play, it seems to me he is playing to a possession game plan and PLAYING IT SAFE. Not wanting to make a mistake... But in-turn he isn't using his talents..

I really think he is a bit overwhelmed by the fact that he is actually on the field playing AFL footy with players he admires..

I think once Roos and the players back him to take risks, he will do more of what you want him to do. .I think in the second half, thats what was communicated...

.. He needs confidence as he may be a bit too polite and respectful to some of the older players calling for the ball or tries to set them up.....which is good, but sometimes he should go himself...Thats what he has to learn.... just GO...........

Pretty good post. I think he has played it a bit "safe" at times, but it's because he's been given a role, which as Roos knows, is partly a way of giving the kid some limitations. Time is on our side with Jetta, and Roos knows it. The lad is doing well, I love watching him play...

Just checking out the stats page, Lewis is 3rd on the list for behinds (behind Goodes and ROK) and last on the list for goals. As we all know, he is 0-9. Gee, I just really hope the Jet can kick one soon! If he converted half of those this thread would have a different title : )

There's only been 1 or 2 that I'd say were very gettable. The rest were 50-50 or 40-60 sort of shots. By law of averages he really should have at least nailed a few by now. It will happen.

For sure. As you say, by law of averages. Just really unfortunate none have gone in. Amazing to think he hasn't even had a poster? That will probably come next : )

You think 13 disposals, 2 tackles and 0.4 goals a game is good enough for someone playing in midfield?

Nope. But I've already been through that on here : )

I actually think he needs to work much harder, just sayin' kicking goals helps keep people off your back. Just ask Jesse White. :)

Jets might have to watch this clip before he goes to bed each night.

You think 13 disposals, 2 tackles and 0.4 goals a game is good enough for someone playing in midfield?

That's a perfectly OK return for a first year player playing on the wing. . Compare that to the stats of some other midfielders in their first year.

Nic Fosdike - 9.4 disposals, 0.9 tackles, 0.6 goals
Craig Bird - 13.7 disposals, 2.2 tackles, 0.4 goals
Dale Thomas - 14.1 disposals, 1.3 tackles, 0.6 goals

Even Cyril Rioli has comparable stats - 13.8 disposals, 3.5 tackles, 1 goal

Jetta is also averaging 3.3 inside 50s a game. So what if he isn't racking them up like Hanners? He's still finding a bit of the ball, and doing a good job with it.

What I want to know is how does a player who hasn't kicked a goal yet average 0.4 goals a game?
