I have been thinking about this a bit today and I thought I would put it to poll to see what the BigFooty mob thinks about it:p

Jezza played a very good game for the Westies yesterday where he was everywhere for 4 quarters. Played mainly on the HFF and got 28 possesions, 10 marks and kicked 5.3. With the way our forward line struggled against the Bulldogs, do we pick Jericho after 1 good game in the SANFL or do we leave him with the Westies to see if he can do it 2 or 3 weeks in a row????

Yes. I thought his first season was reasonable and he's the sort of player we should be blooding.

All the more reason to play him now that he's in form.

Plus he can play up forward which is still our major deficiency.

Depends if you think Burton is the only change you make. It also depends on what the match committee are after. If they are after consistency then yes a few more weeks. If they are looking for him to step up and show he can get the ball then yes. Also look at the opposition

They said on the news that Burton, Hart and Shirley will be fit to play against the Kangaroos.

And Jericho would be 4

Now find 4 to come out

Jericho's form has been good all season for the Westies, been in their best pretty much every week despite Rehn throwing him all over the ground.

Out: Massie, Welsh, Begley, Bassett (injured?), Van Berlo or Doughty

In: Burton, Hart, Shirley, Jericho

Wouldn't mind Biglands for Meesen as well.

I think you said it yourself Stiffy, one good game after numerous quiet ones is not enough.

He needs to show he can perform over a few weeks before he can be considered seriously.

The forward line isn't playing exceptionally but it's 'alright' atm, it was the midfield's fault we lost on Saturday night.

Having said that, a little bit of tinkering is needed, and I'd rather see Burton, or a Stevens up there for the time being.

Doughty (only one performance to speak of so far this season), Massie (last in first out, unfortunately), Van Berlo (let him get some onfield time in the SANFL) and Begley (meh).

Burton/Massie

Hart/Begley

Jericho/Welsh

Shirley/Bassett

North play small in their forward line apart from Rocca

In Cricket your asked to rack up a few big scores as a batsman, or a few hauls of wickets, not one performance that may or may not be a fluke in form.

2 Questions:

1. Has he developed those areas of his game NC has obviously told him to work on (defensive)
2. In the areas we fell down on Saturday does Jericho fulfill a need.

IMO leave him there a bit longer , after 1 loss I doubt there will be wholesale changes anyway.

Answer 1: Yes, Jericho has been quite often played in defense for Westiies this season, and has generally been thrown all around the ground by Rehn to fix up deficiencies.

Answer 2: Yes, we genuinely lacked pace and flair in the forward line.

I can't really see how Jericho would solve our forward line woes eg lack of contested marking options. Leave him in the sanfl for a few more weeks.

Yes - might as well strike while the iron is hot......lord knows it will go cold again so might as well take advantage.

Clarke and Burton's availability would mean 3 changes.....??....could be prohibitive and seen as a panic move.

Yes drop Welsh, as i've mentioned in a few other threads his arrogance is really starting to give me the ********s, M Stevens also!

We won't drop Welsh. While he is off the boil a bit he is still our best forward and leading goal kicker with 11 goals. Despite his poorish form he is still good for a goal or 2 and he might fire against his old club.

Well as you can all see by my username I hate Jericho and I would very much dislike him to play.

NOT!

I LOVE JERICHO! SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE HIM A GAME PLEASE! I'M MISSING HIM TERRIBLY!

I have a humongous sign as big as me that says "JERICHO ROX MY SOX" and it's getting dusty.

I LOVE YOU LUKE!

Sensible approach.

I'd really like to see Burton brought in up forward - maybe Stevo as well if he realy fires tomorrow.

Jericho needs a few of these performances on the. trot to get a game IMO. I'm sure we'll see him in there sooner or later.

Its an interesting one. Do we go with the youth policy and award their good form or do we pick the best possible team we can????

I would have thought that the club needs to promote youth if their form warrants it and someone like Jericho is the sort of player we need to play. He is a forward, has pace and knows how to kick a goal. We need to develop our forward for the long term because Stevo can't go on forever and if you are fair dinkum about being a bloody good side, you don't build a foward line around Perrie

Putting Burton up forward still satisfies that youth criterion, as it leaves a mid-field spot open for one of the young guys.

Burton will be coming back anyway, it's just a matter of where.

Stevens doesn't, but it's still a balancing act between youth and winning. We still have a heap of other younsters in the side.

I'm with you stiffy, Jericho is a player we need to know if he can play up forward by the end of the year, I really think he is going to benefit from playing AFL level - he has been in the best players for Westies most of the year, I think he has earnt his spot.

I mentioned this before our loss, but I think Craig is really going to struggle to keep his "youth Policy" when he isn't winning, he realises that there is a big pressure for him to win especially with the first 4 games results

Now macca23, you know as well as I do that Burton will NOT play as a forward. When he returns he will play on the wing. We all know it so saying that we should play him forward is a bit pointless:p

Fact is Burton will be played on the wing whether we like it or not.

Just out of interest name those youngsters we have in the side and furthermore name the youngsters we are developing as forwards at AFL level ;):p

You know them all as well as I do Stiffy!! :D

Your point obviously relates to young forwards, and I agree that at this stage it's only Hentschel from the younger brigade who are being palyed there. Skippy and Thompson often rest up there as well, but yopu're talking about marking forwards IMO.

Watts amd Meesen aren't ready yet, so it could only be Jericho anyway, but let him earn it.

And Burton SHOULD be played up forward, even though he probably won't be.

What about we put YOUNG Doughty up there? :D :p
