He's the best midfielder overhead in the league. Strong as an Ox. Beautiful long right boot and generally underrated by foot, where he's absolutely top notch. Good vision and like many of your players extremely unselfish. He is a punishing tackler and a presence.

For me Bartel's most impressive aspect is his demeanor on the field. Physical but fair and totally unflappable. Never panics, never spits the dummy or drops his head. A lot like Gary Ayres in this respect, except he smiles a bit more.

Yeserdays game against the bombers should have answered all your questions! Bartel is simply amazing! Always runs to the right positions, Has more courage than sense at times, is always geting hard fought contested possesions, and is one of the most humble, team orientated players on and off the field. Absolute 100% superstar!!!

Maybe because he just does the job week in, week out. Even when he's got a heavy tag, he does the 1%ers very well. His natural style of play might not be the flair of Hird or the explosiveness of Judd or Ablett, but he's always in there and amongst it. His Brownlow win was recognition of that.

Anyone watch the game last week on TV when Dennis Commeti had to do a double take in the 3rd or 4th quarter because he called Bartel in the defensive 50 and then called him again kicking the ball inside the forward 50? He couldn't believe that Bartel had run all that way and so quickly.

Did you watch sundays game ?
He did it a few times,but one moment late in the game stood out.He was involved in the play in the back pocket.The ball comes out and goes straight up the outer wing and there on the end about 40-50 out from Geelongs goal is Jimmy.As the ch7 commentators said,how did he get up there so quick.I think Schwarz pointed out it was probably the high kick to Hawkins that gave him just enough time to get there.
