Not sure if this is thread worthy or not, and this is my first go at starting a new one so be nice,:). Read in the paper today young Sellar was already told he will not be selected for Crows this week (obviously), and trained with the Bays last night. Is this usual?
Must admit I am getting a bit worried about his SANFL form or lack of. I really hoped he would dominate this year and push for a regular spot with the Crows.
Is anyone else concerned?
Do you think he trained with Glenelg to help his SANFL performances?

Training more with Glenelg might let him learn their structure more and he might start dominating SANFL like we all know he could be at this point of time.

No one really knows though..

even after being given the best chance at playing against blokes his size (with the bays), he looked way outta his depth against the kangas a few weeks back. to think him and tippett were on the same page pre-season in some people's eyes...

...he'll only get a look in if we get hit with injuries *touch wood* or someone in THAT forward line has 2 or 3 off games on the trot...

Yeah, but who with?

I'm worried that he'll be a Meeson and head elsewhere to chase the opportunities he's not getting with us; not that it's working for Johnny.

Jimmy's not going anywhere, grew up as a Crows fan, was absolutely rapt to be picked up by the crows and its not as if he hasn't had an opportunity against the roos and thats despite apparent poor form in the SANFL.

Jimmy's going to take time, he's learning a new position, is still extremely young and will get there. Tippets got 2 years on him and is an absolute freak. KPP's don't just develop overnight, they take time, just look how long it took Hentschell to really hit his straps, the year he hurt himself was the his first consistently good year where he started to fulfil his potential. Bock, Rutten, Stevens took a few years before they cemented their spots in the side.

Jimmy will get there, from what I saw of him against the roos, he looks like he has the ability to get there, unfortunately didn't look like he had the confidence or maturity just yet. I think next year we will start to see some really good signs from him, patience is required.

I just wish he would produce a good game for the Bays to show some clear signs of improvement.

Would be nice to see that, unfortunately I don't think we will, he'll be rotating between ruck, forward and bench, goodluck to him showing a heap doing that, especially as he has to compete with 3-4 other targets in the glenelg forward line. Unless things change dramatically down at glenelg(ie injuries to their key forwards or something) I just don't see things changing terribly much.

So much of James Sellar reminds me of Fungus Watts.
Everyone believed Fungus would be our saviour, an awesome forward etc
but just something is lacking. Both seem to lack mental strength, Speed, Agility etc.

Just hope James proves me wrong.

Hope we havent wasted another 1st rounder, but with Tippet, Walker and Hentsell still available, it makes me feel better.

But Does anyone else think that Its best for Sellar to start off at CHB?
Learn how to play the game first (like Hentsell did) and playing on CHF players, by playing on them, then when he gains enough confidence and knowkedge of the game use him up forward.

Harsh but potentially fair, I don't think sending to CHB will be that great a move
I think getting him the right mentor and plenty of time up forward is more important.

I just need to check -

This Sellar who's lacking something, who there's nothing nice to say about, who needs a kick - is it the same Sellar who was inspiring collective pants wetting on this board after Dubai?

Or do we have two Sellar's on the list?

It'd be nice if he was pushing for AA selection, but he's a big lump of a kid in his second year on an AFL list. Like Ben Reid (pick 8), or the Brown twins (picks 10 and 16) he's far from the finished product, but it's way too early to write him off, or even write him down.

I tend to agree, i think people get a little impatient especially with 1st round picks, i have to be honest i would love to see how he would go if he was needed as a ruckman for the crows. It may put a few minds at rest if he was able to play a similar intro as Tippet and Griffin to the AFL.

Players who go on to become stars show something special early on. Such as Tippet who has played less football than sellar.

I still think playing Sellar at CHB for a yr or so is best for his development.

yeah but in fairness to Sellar - he is still 2 years younger than Tippet

19-21 is a big difference in Football.

In time i think, (I hope) he'll come good, as some have said, he's still young and KPP can take longer to develop. He does have potential and is worth the wait.

Just on a side note... some may think im way off with this but his shaved head made him look meaner and a bit "buddy franklin"-like to me, could that be a reason we're so rushed to see him develop?:D

And yet Sellar has been playing football since he was probably 8, played 200 games of football for club, state and school compared to Tippett who probably hasnt reached his 40th game. Dont compare the two because one is going to be a superstar of the comp and the other I really hope will make it but I dont like his chances one bit.
I agree with Faith, put him to CHB, but in the reserves and let him learn how to get a kick again. Sometimes you need to take two steps back to take a step forward.... 40 touches of the football in 8 games, 7 winning games, is reason to try something different. I cant recall any previous AFL listed player to do worse, can you name any? Be interested

Does everyone remember when he was drafted saying that it'll take 2 - 3 years for him to develop? Just to remind you all it's been a year and a half;)

And I wouldn't read anything into him training with Glenelg, I imagine all the other Crows far from AFL selection who are lining up on Friday Night such as Kite, Walker and Curnow all trained with their SANFL sides too.
